Dune?

Was wondering if anyone has caught the film yet.

I reread the book this past summer and thought it would be challenging to transfer adequately to film. The book seemed to be more space opera (focused mainly on interactions between factions in a future feudal world) than a rollicking adventure.

Turn up the volume, the score is great and supportive.

We loved it even though our Internet is iffy at times and we had to wait out a few long pauses we were stunned by all of it.

Much closer to the book than the last movie. I liked the last movie for what it was but not for what it was supposed to represent, it just did not do the books justice.

We loved it!

had some good points, but wandered too far off the intent of the book IMHO.

Later versions have shown promise.

It was exquisite.

I'm not sure how the ending lines up with the books but I felt this one concluded this one in an undramatic place. What's next? Paul and the Freman defeat the Harkonnens and....? I forget where the saga goes after that.

30 days I wanted to see it on the big screen. Great cast, well done. The movie covers only about the 1st half of the book. I walked out wanting to see the rest of the movie now! Will have to see when the Studio actually approves Part II.

But Part 1 is in the title on screen. I wonder how folks not knowing that will feel about it. I enjoyed Dune as a kid and have read most of the books (including Herbert's son's books), but my enthusiasm is somewhat dampened by the realization that this story may never be completed. Maybe the remaining Paul Atreides story will play out in series format on HBO Max.

I suspect WB will wait a couple of weeks as American audiences add their numbers to the box office totals before making the announcement official. But Villeneuve has said that he's recently started writing the script for the second part.

There's even been a suggestion that he might do a third movie, bringing in Dune Messiah.

... and I don't figure the movie is going to be any better.

If that's the human future then pull the plug on us, we humans should never leave the planet.

It's probably our good fortune as humans that faster than light travel is not possible in this universe. It protects whatever neighbors we may have from invasive species such as ourselves. It also protects us from any more advanced species that might want to clear the earth of us, thus allowing earth's natural environment to revert to something resembling the early Eocene.

Nevertheless, in spite of my skepticism, I'm likely see this movie anyways to preserve my credentials as a Science Fiction movie nerd.

Paparazzi Spot Timothée Chalamet Lounging On Mediterranean Yacht With Mystery 1,200-Foot Sandworm

SANTORINI, GREECE—After photographing the couple several miles off the coast of a secluded Greek isle, multiple paparazzi published images Friday of Dune star Timothée Chalamet lounging on a Mediterranean yacht with a mystery 1,200-foot sandworm. “Timothée rented a luxurious yacht for a vacation with his beautiful, 90-ton serpentine friend,” said an anonymous source close to the 25-year-old heartthrob, whose publicist later asked that the media respect the privacy of the topless, limbless “model/spice producer” seen in the photos, confirming that the pair had met through a mutual friend on the set of the new film. “It’s nice to see them cutting loose and enjoying the sun and sand all by themselves. Now that everyone has seen photos of their steamy make-out session, there are obviously going to be rumors that the two are a couple, but both Timothée and his colossal gal pal want to take things slow. Don’t look for them to settle down and start producing larvae anytime soon!” Local law enforcement said at least a dozen of the paparazzi were presumed dead after the vibrations from their camera shutters attracted the sandworm’s attention and their bones were crushed in her 250-foot-wide maw.

I'm curious how well it works for people who aren't familiar with the source material. But having read the series, I loved this movie. Five out of five stone burners for me!

I missed much of the dialog the first time.

Can't say I loved it, but it was stunning and unlike your average blockbuster. And Hans Zimmer completely morphed into a different composer.

Truly spectacular.
