(16,844 posts)You still need to wipe your butt. Maybe you won't need as much toilet paper, but you still need some.

(13,578 posts)and couldn't reach very easily. That bidet was great. Just a little squirt bottle with a special stem/nozzle. I still use it and am thinking about installing some type of bidet. I hardly use any toilet paper.
It wouldn't be a bad idea. You never know, we may have another TP shortage.

(33,643 posts)and directed perfectly ... to clean nearly as well as wiping can do.
Bidet's may be good for cleaning lady parts after a pee, but your butt?
And how do you even dry off afterwards?

(86,569 posts)That the water comes out of the line at just above freezing in the winter up in these parts. And it's not much warmer in the summer! One squirt of that and I'd be hitting the ceiling!

(33,643 posts)Best solution, IMHO, is to try to get your body in a rhythm where you poop before you have to shower every day. "Problem" solved.
And if you can't, so what? If someone else is gonna get personal with your hind quarters ... take a shower first. They'll appreciate it even if you HAVE a bidet.
But otherwise, is it REALLY that important if your butthole isn't clean enough to eat off of for some portion of the day/night?
People walked round with dirty bums for millenia before there was TP. It's not going to hurt you ...

(86,569 posts)If your diet is appropriate for maintaining health, according to some Asian food philosophies I've examined, your poop should come out rather clean without leaving much, if any, residue.
I'll continue to use TP.

(4,554 posts)They have been around in Europe & Japan for many years and are standard equipment in many areas. As for wiping, I recall it said on this forum a while ago it's sometimes like trying to wipe peanut butter off a shag carpet. A little water makes a big difference.
As for drying, use a towel like you would dry your butt after a shower.
The only downside to the type of bidet shown here is that you get a blast of cold water (but they say you get used to it). Some, more expensive, models heat the water electrically but that complicates installation considerably.
I don't have one but would like to try it...
