I suck at math. I don't like sports.
I LOVED the book Moneyball.
thought there was NO WAY they'd be able to make a movie out of it, which makes it all the more surprising that it was so damned good.

and odds and betting just confound me - my head doesn't work that way.

I do like some sports - live baseball games are a hoot (though I loathe and despise football).

But this movie was just fascinating, with some really good performances, including the young girl who plays Pitt's daughter. Just fun. And I know this is ridiculous, but it cracks me up every time Pitt's character shoves a twinkie or some other shit fast food in his mouth all in one bite. Just conveys such energy and anxiety all at once.

many say that WALL-E was rather wrenching, and I'm a big sissy - I stay away from sadness, if I can, in movies (too much in real life, I need escapism).

Ratatouille, however, looks like fun

He was amazing in that roll and the guy from 'The Artist' will be doing bad Euro B-movies with the guy who won an oscar from 'Life is Beautiful'.

I just watched Contagion on HBO tonight - what a smart, well done movie by Steven Sodenburgh. Had a massive cast of big name actors including Matt Damon, Kate Winslett, Gywneth Paltrow, Marion Cottaird, Elliott Gould, Lawrence Fishborne and Bryan Cranston.

Moneyball, and Pitt's performance, were both far more compelling stories, movies, etc., and should have won.

I've seen Contagion - I liked it, too. It wasn't hyped and over-dramatized. Just interesting, good acting, good story. Poor Gwyneth - she is annoying, I think she just can't help it, some people are like that - but I know her last scene (trying to avoid spoilers) caused glee in many hearts.

There were so many good actors nominated. George Clooney had a great movie too but he's gotten an Oscar already (although for best supporting actor). I think Brad Pitt really deserves recognition. He started off as a 'pretty boy' and could have made his career out of looking pretty in bad rom-com movies. Instead he has had a great history of amazing films, many where he wasn't very pretty at all (ie 'Fight Club', 'Seven', '12 Monkeys'). When he gets parts like that it really showcases how talented of an actor he is.
