(7,873 posts)3. People who have accepted the media version of a folksy Carter fail to realize how serious he was
and how thoughtful. He is the intellectual and spiritual opposite of G.W. Bush.
"The Chalk River experience made him realize the awesome and potentially very destructive power he was dealing with. It gave him a true respect for both the benefits but also the devastatingly destructive effect nuclear energy could have. I believe this emotional recognition of the true nature of the power mankind had unleashed informed his decisions as president, not just in terms of having his finger on the nuclear button, but in his decision not to pursue the development of the neutron bomb as a weapon."

(10,494 posts)6. And unlike our last President, Jimmy was working at 6:00 a.m. everyday!

(7,873 posts)8. He had been a peanut farmer, a Navy Officer, and Governor of Georgia.
He worked hard to know and understand the details, and the people those details would affect.
He is also a committed Evangelical Christian of the old school where you acted on your faith from personal integrity rather than following blindly the dictates of a few.
