So winter has hit Texas.

Right now it is about 45 but will drop down to 🥶.

The temp will go up and down like that.

The front blew in about three this morning.

So we spent the last two days getting pole barns ready for cows and mules.

My neighbor has rescue mules,. they make great guard mules.

We had warm December, now the temp drop.

So now sitting in little barn waiting on the young heifers to give birth.

They look like they will explode any time now.
They are huge.

But it nice and warm in here, the cow dogs are here with me.

Some the barn cats are curious.

Everybody stay warm.

My friend adopted them.

She has lot of rescue animals.

She wanted donkeys but came home with mules instead.

They are more like pets.

Last year was bad.

We had old fashion gas space heaters.

Just a match.

Old houses have gas jets.

Our house was warm.

We had company.

Not going to let people freeze.

A lot of plants died.

Covering them did not help.

Most residences in Texas are all electric. That really surprised me when I moved there from Ohio in 1981. I thought that since Texas was a big producer of natural gas, that it should be the choice for home heating and cooking.

Old houses had gas space heaters.

Some people had gas fire places.

Old Dearborn heaters will warm up a room.

We had a about 25 people and assorted pets.

Thankfully we plenty of fresh pork and vegetables.

We had a big pot of pinto beans and cornbread one night.

Soup the next.

We had bought half a cow.

We were prepared.

One guest was very pregnant.

She came with her mother and three kids.

They had a electric house.

We were a full house.

Hill country.

Colder here then the Gulf I think.

Got my long underwear on.

But Gulf is cold.

We are not used to it.

December was so warm.

Icy roads.

I am not going back to town until next week.

The water is turned off, pipes drained.

My neighbor is a retired plumber.

The pipes are insulated but still better to be safe.

He will stay over and babysit the house.

He likes the old style heaters.
