(34,195 posts)I guess it would depend upon the state as it would probably vary.

(11,008 posts)I believe that is annual. Most places I see are like $250, which includes the card application and the doctor's appointment for your assessment.
I haven't gotten the card yet, because it's available recreationally, but the medical card gives access to stronger stuff, better discounts from dispensaries, home delivery and less taxes.

(17,086 posts)Plus whatever your physician charges. Personally, I'm staying off any state run registries, but I get 20% off as a veteran anyways, so that's good enough.

(16,377 posts)You can get any type of pot at our dispensaries here. Why do you need a card?

(16,377 posts)You said there was an application fee in Colorado? I wasn't challenging you, just curious.

(17,086 posts)Like you, I see no need for one here in Colorado, but that seemed to be what the OP was asking about, so I told them.

(8,387 posts)There is a special assessment of 15% tax on top of sales taxes apply, in addition to a 15% excise tax on wholesale sales.
Medical marijuana is subject to the 2.9% state sales tax and whatever local sales taxes there may be.

(16,377 posts)I just don't get why you'd purchase a card when you can get everything w/o one and it requires more tax.
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)If you expect to spend more than around $100 over the lifetime of the card, then $29.50 is worth it.
You pay LESS taxes if you have a medical marijuana card. The wholesale and retail special taxes only apply to recreational marijuana.
If you are already being treated for a qualifying condition, then it is not as if you need to see some kind of specialist or one of those "medical marijuana doctors" about your carpal tunnel or whatever one needs in Colorado.
If someone is purchasing, say, 1/4 oz of buds and 20 pack of edibles, what does the total cost of that one purchase come to, typically?

(1,023 posts)My doctor gave me one as part of an office visit. Dispensaries charge anywhere from $50-100. The higher priced ones often have discounts to offset the cost. Im in Maine.

(3,490 posts)And $75 to renew every year.
Vets get discounts.
I have a couple friends who have the card, its pretty cool. You get discounts and deals all the time.

(11,008 posts)I get reward points I can cash in for products, there are daily specials and vet and senior discounts.
Lots of BOGO deals on gummies and vape cartridges.

(4,516 posts)Med MJ Drs are making bank. I had to wait nearly 6 weeks to get an appointment and they were offered in 10 min time slots, 6 days a week for 8-12 hours. It took nearly 2 months to get my card renewed after I applied. For some it took longer, OK MMJ authority loves to kick back applications for "unacceptable" pictures. We've got a petition circulating to make it all legal but that will more than likely take a few years to get it on the ballot. They threw out petitions med MG repeatedly, I expect the same for legal.

(17,086 posts)That's not a paperwork fee, that's a gated entry for the elite.

(4,516 posts)they pay 3-500$. My MIL is one of them. She was forced to retire during the pandemic, I doubt she will be paying that next time.

(17,086 posts)But they do get a lot of laws written to placate them, as they have the numbers. The real players are generally amoral.

(16,166 posts)I was told that if you test positive for cannibis in an impaired driver stop it becomes a felony. My sister told me she would not apply for one because they would take her concealed carry permit away from her if she got the medical card.
Medical allows for positive tests.
Doctor fee here $180.00 plus whatever the state pulls out of one's pockets.
Upon further review the state application fee is $75.00 with the physician fee anywhere from that $180.00 to $250.00 for a card that is good for 120 days from date of issuance.
This is Floriduh.
I was wondering how other states handled it.
