1. The DC 3 is an amazing airplane. Still being refurbished and restored today.

There is a substantial industry for it. At least one company I am aware of doing so in the US.

2. besler. they also replace the engines with turbine probellers as parts for the piston propellers

are getting harder and harder to find as is the fuel to run the pistons and so are mechanics .

basler will take the old airframe and refurbish it , strech it and add new avionics and add turbine propeller engines as most planes run on kerosene and or diesel.

They had found the air frame of the first C47 to cross the Channel on D-day. They restored it. I still haven't got to see in person.

Note: Only 600 DC-3's were built, but 10,000 C-47's, the stripped down military version were built.

he C-47 differed from the civilian DC-3 in numerous modifications, including being fitted with a cargo door, hoist attachment, and strengthened floor, along with a shortened tail cone for glider-towing shackles, and an astrodome in the cabin roof.
