(41,959 posts)Grace and Frankie is one of my very favorite shows. Im teaching a psych class on aging and its one of the least stereotypical without pretending they arent old Ive ever seen.

(3,275 posts)I have a mom, dad, stepdad and step mom who are each 81 years old but healthy and active. The show nicely represents older people. Lots of great guest stars on there.

(3,275 posts)We didn't have cable so it was CBS, NBC and ABC. Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings and Dan Rather were the newscasters. We would watch one of them every night to get the news.

(48,968 posts)I hate that so many people we've admired for years are gone.
But this feels like a "soon to be extinct" list, since it is just a list. Just names and ages.
And I know IrishEyes didn't mean the OP that way. And I respect the original intent.
But none of us are likely to talk about people we know personally, older people, by commenting that they're still alive.
It's so much better to focus on what they're actually doing.
An OP about some older celebrity and/or artist who's still doing great work, and HOW they're doing it, wouldn't feel so, well, dire. Or maybe I should say elegiac.
Editing belatedly to add that I'm old enough to belong to AARP.
And I like the way their feature articles on older celebrities and artists put the emphasis on their continuing work, how vital they still are.

(48,968 posts)just names and ages makes me think too much of lists of people who've died.
