(102,225 posts)working dogs, especially those used by the military and police respond to the tone and authoritative aspects of those speaking the language. So, it isn't true that the way in which you speak is (totally) immaterial to the dog. But does your Chihuahua prefer Hispanic-accented English or Spanish? Probably not. But they surely will appreciate YOUR voice.
So, that's the non-sarcastic answer...
Still, on the subject, I remember years ago taking my Aussie/Lab mix pup to a mall doggy Christmas Santa event once and there were probably 25 dogs with owners in line. Of course, some started getting unruly, as pups will, until the "lead Santa helper" (an older guy with a heavy Hungarian accent) came through the line speaking in a friendly, yet very seriously authoritarian manner to all those dogs and puppies. Every damned one of them came to attention and watched this guy with full focused attention-- at least for a while. It was pretty fascinating to watch.

The dog worshipped him, and he could have spoken in Pig Latin to that dog lol.
Dad was English, not French.
Ive used Welsh with my babies. I think they go on tone of voice lol.+
