on Kam Hiway in Haleiwa back in 1972-73. We used to get that same surf on our beach, about 25 feet from my doorway. In the winter of 1972-73 we had to abandon our beach house and evacuate to Wahiawa when the surf started coming into our windows.

We thought it was pretty exciting at the time. I don't think I would want to go through that again anymore at my advanced age!

in front of that beach house. I even remember the address, 61-673 Kamehameha Hiway, Haleiwa, HI.

We were three bachelor Army Lieutenants renting that beachouse for over a year. It was $345 a month rent, split three ways. Can you imagine what it must be now?

Right after we had to abandon the house due to the high surf in December 1973 we all PCSed to Asia for a couple of years. I ended up mostly in Taiwan. Yep, Ahhhhh youth!

I never realized it could be so fascinating to watch people surfing (never having had the opportunity to do so).
