(16,373 posts)Now I want a costume for snow shoveling. My neighbors already believe me to be odd, so why not?

(8,789 posts)When we used to get huge snows in Denver, all my neighbors relied on me firing up my macho 16hp Jacobsen snow blower and doing everyone's sidewalk and driveway. I did that for the better part of 40 years, and now it is interesting to me that now that I am old, I wake up and all my walks are shoveled by the same neighbors that I took care of for years.
Jacobson mowers and snow blowers were of a much better quality and had much greater performance than the brands that are offered today regardless of size or price......I guess that can be said of most of the commercial goods offered today. Just look at the outrageous prices and lower quality of household appliances if you doubt it............
Kitchen Aide appliances were tops. Then a cheaper manufacturer bought them and most other appliance manufacturers, cheapened them immensely, but kept putting the Kitchen Aide name on them to sucker old owners into believing they were still buying the Kitchen aide quality.........And now Kenmore (sears) appliances are experiencing the same destiny......
It has become that the ol' "MADE IN AMERICA" is not what it used to be.......

(35,619 posts)I would dress in 40s style clothing and drive a classic car.
However, my collection of such dresses, purchased in nyc vintage shops in the 80s, does not hold up well with my tromping around the garden.
