I love the "Endeavour" series, the "Inspector Morse" prequel. Any fans here? I recently decided to start rewatching the original Inspector Morse series, and I don't like it nearly as much as "Endeavour." The older Morse is a bit lazy and bumbling, where the younger Morse in "Endeavour" is sharp as a tact and hard-working. I'm waiting for Season 8 of Endeavour to show in the US on PBS. It's already aired in the UK.
What do you all think about "Endeavour" vs. "Inspector Morse"?

(1,356 posts)Over the years the world wears (most of us) down a bit and our faculties too tend to dull over decades. I love them both! Lewis is my favorite though.

(115,656 posts)He's actually kind of an asshole in a lot of ways - he often thinks he's got a case figured out right away, gets all arrogant about it and treats Lewis like an idiot, but then he finds out that he's wrong and has to revise his theory, although quite cleverly at the end. He's much nicer in the TV series. I like the Endeavor series but the original Morse series is even better, IMO.

(46,767 posts)Yes of course Endeavour is a much better series than the original.
No doubt about it.
But the old series was not bad.

(4,858 posts)...and I love Fred Thursday, and was appalled to see the spat between Morse and Thursday in the last episode shown here--they went thru too much for that to happen. One thing, though--I wonder if there really *were* Masonic conspiracies in the Oxfordshire police department in the 1960s...because they've given them a lot of prominence...

(53,026 posts)but there have been references to masonic conspiracies throughout history. I've never quite understood them.

(50,248 posts)of the series and started first with "Endeavour," when Morse was young, then "Inspector Morse" and finally the one with Lewis. Overall, we like "Endeavour" more than the others and are looking forward to the next season. We have several shelves that are filled exclusively with British television series CDs. In addition to the detective/mystery shows we also like some of the period pieces, the older version of "All Creatures Great and Small," "Doc Martin," etc.
