Yelp Just Dropped Its List of the Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. This Year

Most spots on the list offer meals for $30 or less.

Yelp has become many people's go-to tool over the years—it's really the only thing powerful enough to end the "what's for dinner tonight?" debate. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing many restaurants and local businesses to shutter their doors, Yelp is still helping everyone find the best places to eat. With the new year upon us, the site just dropped its Top 100 US Restaurants 2022 list.

The ninth annual Top 100 list features a diverse array of cuisines. The top slot went to Cocina Madrigal, a Latinx, father-and-son owned eatery in Phoenix, while Afghan cuisine took No. 2 with Aracosia–McLean in McLean, Virginia. To make the list even more enticing, most of the spots are relatively affordable, with meals coming in at $30 or less.

To come up with this list, the crowd-sourced review site said that it "reach[ed] out to Yelpers for their favorite dining spots" before ranking each "by total number of submissions, ratings, reviews, and geographic representation, among other factors." From vegetarian fare in Massachusetts to pizza in Michigan to sushi in Oregon, check out the Top 100 US Restaurants of 2022.

These venues made the top 25 spots on the list:

1. Cocina Madrigal – Phoenix, AZ
2. Aracosia - McLean – McLean, VA
3. Fermentation Farm – Costa Mesa, CA
4. Oriole – Chicago, IL
5. Bird Bird Biscuit – Austin, TX

salad sandwich? Well, I guess it is a poll of some kind and some of the food items certainly look good, but?

One of the restaurants on the list is one I used to go to pretty often - they've been around for ages, a Greek place, food is terrific. Haven't been there in a long time but when the plague subsides around here a bit I'll have to go back.

9. It's been some years since I've been there, but I really enjoyed the food at the time.

The owner (at the time) was really friendly, too. Used to go there often with some friends; we were kind of regulars. Don't know if he's still there, though.

The website says that's their original location, opened in 1988. I remember when a drug store stood on that spot, before Whittier was gentrified.

When I worked downtown in the '90s it was on the way home, so it was a kind of regular hangout, along with the Rainbow Chinese restaurant in the same area. I'll be glad when that dumb K-Mart is gone and that street opens up again.

We've never been known to be a foodie town.
Having said that, our Mexican/LatinX food is excellent!

And we love Afghan food! I had never even heard of the place. My only other favorite Afghan place is in Prague. Maybe we can check it out before I head back to Europe on Saturday.

I noticed one of the places in is Waikoloa, where we'll all be in a little over 2 months, although they also listed a place in Waimea (Big Island), and there never used to be anything of note there. New place maybe?
