Over the last couple of years I've started buying my T-shirts for casual wear in the men's department. I especially like the "George" brand from Walmart. They are thicker than women's, long enough to cover my butt when I wear leggings, and most important, cheaper than women's t-shirts by quite a bit (around $5.50). Yeah, I know they're made in China, but I use them for every day wear when I do stuff that is dirty and liable to stain, rip, or otherwise wreck them, but they hold up pretty well for the money. It's not "fast fashion", it's fast utility for me. I prefer Duluth Trading T-shirts, but I'm not spoiling mine with chemicals etc. from my jewelry studio or getting them ripped up at the shelter.
Anyone else care to contribute?

(70,074 posts)thrift shops is my thing. i do cruise the women's dept, and have a lot of comfy dresses. but most of what i buy is from the men's section. sturdier, and w better pockets.
but i dont buy hair care, personal care or anything that comes in pink or blue flavors.

(115,661 posts)and since my upper arms are gross I prefer to keep them covered, so I don't like the teeny little cap sleeves on a lot of women's shirts. I always get cheapo men's t-shirts. I lost a bunch of weight since the pandemic started so now my old xx shirts are more like dresses but I wear them anyhow.

(31,965 posts)I found some womens T shirts at Walmart with sleeves down to the elbow. That is the perfect length sleeve for me, I bought several.
Wish stores would sell comfy Womens pants that are somewhere in between skintight leggings and sloppy sweats.

(115,661 posts)after years of being too chubby to wear tight jeans, now I can and so I do! But only when I don't really need to bend over or breathe deeply.

(5,483 posts)in yoga pants for years now. Super comfy and I prefer the boot cut bottom so they look more like pants profile. First pair I owned came from the thrift shop before I even knew yogas existed. I have been known to shop mens' flannel shirts as they are longer. Get most of my stuff at estate sales, yard sales, resale shops now. There are high-end brands at all 3 and I can spot high-end brands a mile away. Happy Shopping ladies!

(9,962 posts)so the men's small is perfect for me. I do thrifting (swap.com is my favorite site) for regular clothes and honestly have bought very little since the pandemic started. Spousal unit gifts me with stuff from Duluth Trading when there is a sale. About the only other thing I've bought lately is socks. I do have a weakness for goofy socks that goes back to my days in nursing. I also like really warm ones in winter because my feet stay cold. Yay boot socks!

(2,570 posts)buy still has new tags, especially garage sale and estate sale purchases, all that stuff ordered that didn't fit and or was gifted ends up for 10 cents on the dollar. And I have time and I am also a collector/seller of antiques so it all fits into my routine.
The big thrift shops now have large volumes of new clothing purchased from the after market market, new but now they do remove the tags. It isn't too hard to notice if something has been worn before, there are seams that tell the story of each garment if you know what to look for. However even used garments that are washable and good quality are worthy purchases.

(31,965 posts)I am too old for leggings and thrift stores seem to be the only place where I can find regular athletic clothing that isnt huge and sloppy or skin tight for a twelve year old.

(22,048 posts)Men's or women's, if they fit, I don't care ($12). They're for working around the farm anyway.
I get hand me down shirts from Mr. Bayard, if they're too small for him. I also have stacks of old race t-shirts from my running days.
On the rare occasion I buy something new, women's clothes are way more expensive than men's.

(16,932 posts)I got a Hanes sports tee last year and 2 or 3 Fruit of the Loom. New for $1 each. My work shirts were showing their age. I just wear these around the house. They had Gildan shirts, too, but never in my size.
I'll wear anything that fits.

(8,572 posts)With olive green sleeves and a gray body. You won't catch any crap from me about it. I have a bunch of them, in different colors. Probably about 8 or 10 now, I've bought a couple or three each year for the last couple of years so I'm keeping my stock fresh! They're my everyday around the house shirts. I can do anything in them and not worry about it, because 6 bucks and durable enough to wear and wash regularly. They're perfect for chores, and errands, and I wear them sometimes on casual Friday to the office (like today!) And the length really is a key factor! You know how on What Not to Wear they have them bring their whole wardrobe to NY and then they throw all the old clothes away? These shirts wouldn't even go in the suitcase. I love these shirts.
I did not start out with the intention of waxing poetic about a tshirt...but here we are, lol. You asked the right question!

(55,007 posts)better quality, cheaper price. arms for shirts made so you can actually move and use your arms. plus the buttons and zippers are correct.
I do buy stretch jeans and some "dressy" tees from the fat lady catalogs, but for outdoor work - mens clothes for sure. shoes/work boots too.

(21,857 posts)I have a bunch of these. They are a decent weight and they are 100% cotton. They sell them in their fabric paint and dye aisle. I tell you they are great!! You don't think to look in Michaels for tee shirts!!
They come in a million colors too: check it out:
