Man's Penis Stolen By Thieves

Fei Lin's Penis Stolen By Thieves

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/24/fei-lin-penis_n_1699017.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular

Fei Lin, 41, of the Niqiao village near Wenling City, in east China’s Zhejiang province, told police he was asleep when the thieves burst into his room and put a bag over his head, according to CEN/EUROPICS and as reported in the Daily Star.

"They put something over my head and pulled down my trousers and then they ran off," Lin said. "I was so shocked I didn't feel a thing - then I saw I was bleeding and my penis was gone."

Police believe the attackers were jealous lovers of several local women whom Lin was having affairs with, the Austrian Times reported. Lin denied taking part in any infidelity.

Cenk deserves to get ripped apart for laughing. I'm willing to bet I can't find anybody here who would crack jokes about female genital mutilation which is the rough equivalent, nobody would be making jokes about it. You display a sickening lack of empathy when you whine about people who are opposed to making jokes about this as men's rights proponents.

Yes some people in the comments blamed it on feminists, but the double standard here is hideous and obvious and says a lot about how violence toward men is viewed. There's a reason that so many people are willing to make prison rape jokes but wouldn't joke about women being raped.

So, honestly, I'm the last guy in the world to finger wag, but, shit. He had something terrible happen to him, and he is likely maimed for life. If something similar happened to a woman, would anyone be yukking it up? No, everyone would be like "you sick fuck, that's very silence-of-the-lambs-ish"..

ah, but it's just a man, just his dick, all good fun.

No. Really. It would behoove everyone to remember that we're talking about someone's life, here.

Now, that said, I'm not above making a joke.

Human mutilation jokes certainly test the bounds of good taste, but I'm not going to classify any subject as inherently unfunny regardless of context. Then again I don't go looking for things to be offended by. Some on DU seem to devote a large part of their time to just that (definitely not sayin you, but just sayin).

Certainly you are right in that if the gender roles were reversed there would be more outrage. However, I don't subscribe to the idea that the only difference between men and women is the plumbing. So maybe there is a good goose/gander argument there, but I just see it as another good example of how society looks at men and women differently and always will. I also don't subscribe to the idea that men and women should be treated exactly the same in all instances. I don't believe most men and women would find these jokes offensive, therefore I don't see the problem with them. If the gender roles were reversed, I don't think I could say that.

They cut off his penis, mutilated him and permanently destroyed his life.

I don't think "stole" is the appropriate word.

When some Taliban bastard throws acid in a girls face he didn't "steal" her face.

25. The greatest thing about the big DU...

...for me, is the never ending opportunity to learn. In this thread and in two other threads relating specifically to this one my education grows.

On the surface, I too wanted to join in the snarkfest, but sleep clouded my brain and I logged off before adding something witty.

Today I get see a second lounge thread pointing out (in true lounge fashion), that maybe we should not have been such dicks! Included there was a link to yet another thread on this topic, but from a fully different perspective.

The reading of this third thread gave me pause for reflection. Of course mutilation is not funny. Thinking about why we here found this funny, I came up short. I would agree that the victim deserved some sort of retribution from the villagers whom he was himself victimizing. Was mutilation equal to his 'crimes'? No, well at least not to my way of thinking, nor in the hand for a hand eye for eye way either.

So what made this story funny for me? Upon reflection, I just don't know. Actually I feel sad for this guy who was maimed now.

A fellow DUer is defending those who posted witty things here in that third thread. The defense is quite acurate, this tale IS about men taking revenge on a man and mostly male DUers are commenting here with snark. Although I agree with that defense, (and while reading it in that third thread I cheered it on), I am still not fully comfortable with it.

I know that I am rambling, but my point to all this is, one is never to old to learn, anotherwords I am welcoming myself to the Big DU.

In some make believe animated world where a penis can be "stolen" when you're not paying attention, like a painting hanging in a museum was stolen while the nightwatchman slept, then tracked down by Scooby Doo and then given back to rightful owner, a stolen cartoon penis could be amusing.

But this is a real human being who will never be the same again. That was a horrible crime!

I was not "defending those who posted witty things here." I was simply questioning the whole "why" of it. What was the motivation? Why do some people find it amusing? Why do some people feel the need to play an equivalence game and drag women into the conversation?

I wasn't defending them, or excoriating them.

I'm just a questioner on the long road of life, here.

It is important that you understand that distinction.

My very VERY old B.A. in Cultural Anthropology is woefully inadequate to answer your questions of "why". I personally believe that we each have our missions in life, mine is....well not really sure what mine is to be honest, but misinterpretation IS an all too frequent recurring theme.

Regarding those "why's", I thought you answered them quite well in your posts, with the sole exception of what you label the equivalency game. I didn't even disagree with you there either. Instead in the apples and oranges analogy I chose to look at this from the perspective of the oranges.

Culture aside, imo., it seems that the swapping of genders but not swapping the circumstances would provide a wholly different set of results. Which is where it became easier to understand the overtones of sexism that caused the outrage going on in that thread.

In my case I am a male who can not possibly expierience the female side of male on female sexism. I am forced to learn about this through anecdotal evidence. Then I take that and ask myself how would "I" like it if it were me being treated like this.

False equivalency? Arguably, but it is the closest I will ever come without a gender change operation.

From this perspective, how can I not be sympathetic to those who got angry about how we men handled this topic.

As I said earlier, I believe they heard a dog whistle, 'sexism', that was not heard by all and especially not heard by us males in the lounge. Their response using gender shift, equivalent or not was understandable.

Fwiw: Posting material such as this in this forum is new to me so I looked up what this forum is about....don't get me wrong, I enjoyed spending time on this, but I fear we stray from the spirit of this forum.

I find trying to determine actual motivations interesting. I don't get mad about what other people think or say, too much. I may disagree with others on occasion, but don't we all at one time or another.

I think, sometimes, if we bother to ask before we scold, we can learn a thing or two. I thought it odd that no one bothered to explore motivation, but instead went straight to condemnation and the "How would YOU like it...?" paradigm.

It was just a load of heat and not much light on the subject, to my view, anyway!

That cat looks like my old pal!

In other words, men are one up, typically the more powerful, priveleged, etc. Women are one down, frequently disenfranchised, less powerful, and so forth. It carries pretty well. You can say pretty cruel things about the ruling class, but not about the homeless. You can feel considerable schadenfreud toward the fallen banksters who lose everything, but not a family who loses their home.

I saw another "man" thing today about a grocery store that has a "Man Aisle", one aisle filled with beer, junk food, guy personal items, instant foods, certain magazines and books, etc. There was the inevitable panel, two men and two women. The women drew back saying "How would women feel if there was a Woman Aisle with supposed "female" items, maybe it's offensive. The men were like "YEAH! Where is that place?"

I think men are more secure about their relative position and safety, so the idea of one member (ahem) being injured isn't as threatening to all.
