Are there some smaller spiders that attack orb weavers?

We have a giant orb weaver who has taken up residence on our porch; she's pretty damn impressive and getting quite a lot of bugs due to our porch light.

But tonight she was out, then about an hour ago I checked and she'd gone back into her little nook (she retreats into one of the porch ceiling rafters during the day) and a much smaller spider (maybe 1/4 of her size) spider has take up residence about an inch from her hiding spot.

I know the males are much, much smaller, but I wouldn't think the female orb would hide from the male.

Is this other spider a predator? Should I shoo it away? (I feel protective of my orb weaver). Anyone here know their spidies? I couldn't find anything from a (very quick) web search...
