Just watched "Power of the Dog"
I was not impressed, despite all of its hype of being a shoo in for Best Picture Oscar.
Anybody else see it?

3. I thought it was good.
And, I don’t usually like movies like that. I found it kind of haunting.
I thought the actors were all very good. |

9. I thought it was good, but not "Best Picture Oscar" good.
Great acting, a little slow moving. Benedict Cumberbatch and the young boy (forgot his name) were especially good. One of my things in films is settings and if I don't like the setting, it affects my opinion of the film, no matter how good it was.
I really kind of hate westerns for some reason (even though this was filmed in New Zealand), but I just find the landscapes so ugly and depressing I am turned off. I know it's irrational, but I can't help it. At the same time, anything that is filmed in a lush, green landscape - England, Ireland, northern and central Europe, New England, other green parts of the world - I am very attracted to. I am the same way in life. My mood is very affected by the physical features of a place. A film that is based in a place that I think is ugly will immediately turn me off, no matter how good it is in other respects. Although, I can acknowlege its merits, on the whole, it will not win me over. ![]() ![]() Never said I was a professional film critic. ![]() |

11. I liked it
Benedict Cumberbatch was incredible in it.
The tension was a lot though. I couldn't watch it all at once. |
