She's 79. She has emphysema and congestive heart failure, and has been battling intestinal problems for a couple of years. Yesterday she came home from the hospital, recovering from the latest bout of terrible woes. And she has C-Diff (Wikipedia has good info, too much to relate here).
Right now she's on her way back to the hospital. She gained 13 pounds overnight and she can barely breathe. That's all I know right now.
Until a few months ago, she was dad's sole caretaker. He has Alzheimer's. Even though they now have help in the home about 12-14 hours a day, it's not enough to relieve this burden from mom's shoulders. As a result, over the last few years she has grown weaker and more frail.
We're afraid of losing her.
Please send your best vibes (and prayers, if you pray) for Alice. Thank you.

(32,074 posts)I am sorry. I will keep her and her family in my thoughts. My grandpa had emphysema. It sucks.

(5,604 posts)Last summer we had an outbreak of C. Diff at our local hospital, while my dad was there for colon cancer surgery. It was very tense and stressful, but turned out all right. Best wishes for the best outcome.

One of my problems is CHF. The sudden weight gain is often serious fluid retention and can be
indicative of a serious (though often temporary) problem with her kidneys.
.
In my case, at least so far... it's been fairly easily fixed.
.
Does she need help organizing/remembering her meds? My CHF and COPD require me to take
about 8-9 meds daily and it's hard for me to keep it all straight sometimes.
