https://www.16personalities.comI'm an INTP-T... aka a "Logician"...
A Logician (INTP) is someone with the Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Prospecting personality traits. These flexible thinkers enjoy taking an unconventional approach to many aspects of life. They often seek out unlikely paths, mixing willingness to experiment with personal creativity.
Logicians often lose themselves in thought which isnt necessarily a bad thing. People with this personality type hardly ever stop thinking. From the moment they wake up, their minds buzz with ideas, questions, and insights. At times, they may even find themselves conducting full-fledged debates in their own heads.
From the outside, Logicians may seem to live in a never-ending daydream. They have a reputation for being pensive, detached, and a bit reserved. That is, until they try to train all of their mental energy on the moment or the person at hand, which can be a bit uncomfortable for everyone. But regardless of which mode theyre in, Logicians are Introverts and tend to get tired out by extensive socializing. After a long day, they crave time alone to consult their own thoughts.
very accurate description... In my nearly 60 years I've never been lonely and don't really understand the feeling.
People frequently think I'm "distant" or not paying attention. and I can think of no other person to be with... than myself. Just ask my wife, lol...

Logisticians pride themselves on their integrity. People with this personality type mean what they say, and when they commit to doing something, they make sure to follow through.
This personality type makes up a good portion of the overall population, and while Logisticians may not be particularly flashy or attention-seeking, they do more than their share to keep society on a sturdy, stable foundation. In their families and their communities, Logisticians often earn respect for their reliability, their practicality, and their ability to stay grounded and logical, even in the most stressful situations.

A question comes up, Do you like to go to art museums? How do you answer when youd love to go to art museums, but you panic in crowds, so nowadays you view art mostly on the web. Probably best to say yes, but not sure that produces best findings. Further indication I am a Mess.

And yes, you'll get different results if you give different answers at different times. That's a flaw in the person taking the test, more than in the test. Try changing the answers for any test on any subject, and you'll get different results.
Are the categories fairly general? Of course, with only 16 types. But it's still going to be much more accurate than, say, just trying to explain behavior as extrovert/introvert.

I'm honestly horrified that so many people seem to think it's some sort of actual scientific thing. Honestly, astrology is better verified than this.

(48,959 posts)Again, Myers-Briggs is widely used by businesses and agencies that find it helpful.
This test analyzes personality based on the information a person self-reports on their attitudes and behavior. If the information is accurate, based on real self-knowledge, the results will be accurate. If a person's assessment of their attitudes and behavior changes, then yes, the category can change.
But the same would be true of psychological assessments done by different psychologists or psychiatrists, especially if done of an individual on different days, in different moods.
You could argue that no categories are useful because there are too many factors to consider, and too many variables. But we almost never have complete data in any situation.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,841 posts)Do a little research. And yeah, a lot of psychological assessments are probably also invalid.
Again, the Myer-Briggs thing is simply nonsense. I keep on losing patience with people who think it is the end all and be all of assessments. It's not.
And yeah, take a close look at astrology. You'll find it is at least as good as the Myers-Briggs nonsense.

Someone with the Introverted, Observant, Feeling, and Judging personality traits. These people tend to be warm and unassuming in their own steady way. Theyre efficient and responsible, giving careful attention to practical details in their daily lives.
In their unassuming, understated way, Defenders help make the world go round. Hardworking and devoted, people with this personality type feel a deep sense of responsibility to those around them.
Defenders are true altruists, meeting kindness with kindness-in-excess and engaging with the work and people they believe in with enthusiasm and generosity.
Defenders tend to feel most energized and effective when theyre showing up for someone who needs their help. Defender personalities are known for their humility, and they rarely seek the spotlight.

Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.
JOHANN WOLFGANG VON GOETHE
Advocates (INFJs) may be the rarest personality type of all, but they certainly leave their mark on the world. Idealistic and principled, they arent content to coast through life they want to stand up and make a difference. For Advocate personalities, success doesnt come from money or status but from seeking fulfillment, helping others, and being a force for good in the world.
While they have lofty goals and ambitions, Advocates shouldnt be mistaken for idle dreamers. People with this personality type care about integrity, and theyre rarely satisfied until theyve done what they know to be right. Conscientious to the core, they move through life with a clear sense of their values, and they aim never to lose sight of what truly matters not according to other people or society at large, but according to their own wisdom and intuition.

(33,024 posts)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers%E2%80%93Briggs_Type_Indicator#Criticism
The interesting and somewhat alarming fact about the MBTI is that, despite its popularity, it has been subject to sustained criticism by professional psychologists for over three decades. One problem is that it displays what statisticians call low "test-retest reliability." So if you retake the test after only a five-week gap, there's around a 50% chance that you will fall into a different personality category compared to the first time you took the test.
A second criticism is that the MBTI mistakenly assumes that personality falls into mutually exclusive categories. ... The consequence is that the scores of two people labelled "introverted" and "extraverted" may be almost exactly the same, but they could be placed into different categories since they fall on either side of an imaginary dividing line.[86]

(48,959 posts)categorization professionals in the field prefer to Myers-Briggs. That's also considered flawed, in part because it's based so much on self-reporting, which may not be accurate. That article also says specific facets or narrower categories have to be used to make more accurate predictions of behavior, but there isn't even agreement on what to call the facets.
Both Myers-Briggs and the Big Five provide data points. Partial images of a personality. Neither can provide a complete picture.
But neither is like astrology, which provides a fantasy image supposedly created by the positions of planets and the sun and moon.
Comparing Myers-Briggs to astrology is ridiculous.
The key factor in personality tests based on self-reporting is accuracy (which requires both self-knowledge and honesty). With it, you get good results. Without it, you get garbage.
Whether the test is Myers-Briggs or Big Five.

(48,959 posts)these personality tests do provide some information. If people give honest answers.
I've known quite a few people who were interested in astrology, including some who told me they'd draw up my chart and then I'd be convinced (nope).
My only interest in the impact of planets, the sun and the moon on time of birth has been thinking that one of these years I really should celebrate my birthday at Stonehenge. And take along a good picnic breakfast as well as the cake.

(54,332 posts)I have no idea what ENFP means, but I am NOT a campaigner.
I was mostly right down the middle of the pergentage charts. Whatever THAT means.
I'll just say that I did not find my results to be especially revealing or enlightening.
highplainsdem
(48,959 posts)FWIW, as another ENFP, I didn't think the Campaigner label was a very good one. Other variations of this test call the personality type Encourager (for encouraging others to reach their potential) or Champion (for championing causes) or even motivator.
The description emphasizes diverse interests, which would definitely fit you, with music, politics, humor, theater, and writing science fiction along with your day job (and all those languages).
Your being "mostly right down the middle of the percentage charts" would mean you're not as extreme in some of the traits they mention. The only facet mentioned where I was near the middle of the percentage charts was on the Assertive/Turbulent divide, which is about confidence (A for assertive) and how likely you are to think about past mistakes (T for turbulent; again, some of these are odd choices for labels). My score on the test put me, just barely, in the Turbulent range.
As far as your having no idea what ENFP means:
Extraverted. (Or an extrovert -- never quite sure how to spell it since the spelling with an O has become standard in the US.)
Intuitive.
Feeling. (Valuing emotion as well as analysis.)
Prospecting. (Sigh. Another clumsy label, and I think this type is more often called Perceiving, meaning a personality that tends to be more flexible, as opposed to the Judging type. More open to new experiences than trying to make things orderly. Myers-Briggs explanation: https://www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/mbti-basics/judging-or-perceiving.htm ).
Now maybe that ENFP doesn't fit you. The only info I have is a small fraction of your posts here. I didn't think the description seemed very far off, but you did say those percentage scores were practically down the middle between opposing traits.

(8,360 posts)Protagonist (ENFJ) personality
Protagonists are born leaders, which explains why these personalities can be found among many notable politicians, coaches, and teachers. Their passion and charisma allow them to inspire others not just in their careers but in every arena of their lives, including their relationships. Few things bring Protagonists a deeper sense of joy and fulfillment than guiding friends and loved ones to grow into their best selves.
When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.
Speaking Up for Whats Right
Protagonists tend to be vocal about their values, including authenticity and altruism. When something strikes them as unjust or wrong, they speak up. But they rarely come across as brash or pushy, as their sensitivity and insight guide them to speak in ways that resonate with others.
These personality types have an uncanny ability to pick up on peoples underlying motivations and beliefs. At times, they may not even understand how they come to grasp another persons mind and heart so quickly. These flashes of insight can make Protagonists incredibly persuasive and inspiring communicators.
Changing peoples minds is no easy task but if anyone can do it, its Protagonists.
Protagonists secret weapon is their purity of intent. Generally speaking, they are motivated by a sincere wish to do the right thing rather than a desire to manipulate or have power over other people. Even when they disagree with someone, Protagonists search for common ground. The result is that people with this personality type can communicate with an eloquence and sensitivity that are nearly impossible to ignore particularly when they speak about matters that are close to their hearts.
Getting Involved
When Protagonists care about someone, they want to help solve that persons problems sometimes at any cost. The good news is that many people are grateful for Protagonists assistance and advice. After all, theres a reason that these personalities have a reputation for helping others improve their lives.
Protagonists are genuine, caring people who talk the talk and walk the walk. Nothing makes them happier than motivating other people to do whats right.
But getting involved in other peoples problems isnt always a recipe for success. Protagonists tend to have a clear vision of what people can or should do in order to better themselves, but not everyone is ready to make those changes. If Protagonists push too hard, their loved ones may feel resentful or unfairly judged. And while this personality type is known for being insightful, even the wisest Protagonists may sometimes misread a situation or unwittingly give bad advice.
Leading the Way
People with this personality type are devoted altruists, ready to face slings and arrows in order to stand up for the people and ideas that they believe in. This strength of conviction bolsters Protagonists innate leadership skills, particularly their ability to guide people to work together in service of the greater good.
But their greatest gift might actually be leading by example. In their day-to-day lives, Protagonists reveal how seemingly ordinary situations can be handled with compassion, dedication, and care. For these personalities, even the smallest daily choices and actions from how they spend their weekend to what they say to a coworker who is struggling can become an opportunity to lead the way to a brighter future....

(63,221 posts)I don't know why people are blaming the test for being flawed when they are the ones who are wishy-washy.
I can pretty much tell what people are before they even take the test (to a certian degree, the J/P part always messes me up) but it's easy to tell E/I, S/N and T/F's. Sometimes people will surprise you, but most people are pretty obvious.
