Anybody have an odd, funny, weird bed & breakfast story?

In the 80s, when I was young and pretty apolitical, my bf at the time and I stayed at a B and B in the Deep South. I want to say, SC. the wide was lovely and welcoming, excited to have guests, chatty. The husband was nice, but the house was dedicated to guns, Reagan, and hard-right-type stuff. I was a bit uncomfortable. We weren't married. Anyway, my bf and I got to hear a jocular political diatribe from this older man. I often wonder what would happen now.

I'd probably leave. I was only 20 around the time and "nice". The wife made us Southern Cassarole the next morning.

1. I was at a bnb in England....

And shared breakfast with a young couple. We were talking about the differences between the US and UK, and got onto social class. I said that really, class in the US is primarily about income (I know, complicated, but money matters most).

What about the UK?

The woman laughed, and said I would never be able to figure out the complications of class in Britain. She said she was solid working class, but 'the RESPECTABLE working class who are really lower-middle, because my parents expected me to go to university."
What about her husband?
She laughed and said, "Oh, Paul is POSH. His mother's second husband is the son of a bishop."

I agreed that with delineations like that, I'd never figure out class in the UK!

And then--

Just to say things are different there classwise, the 'highest class' of all (the royals) can be very... downmarket. A friend and I stayed at a lovely but very low-priced bnb on the edge of Dartmoor. This was in the early 80s.
When we got there, the landlady was in a bit of a tizzy. She said that Prince Charles had just left, having been in the area on some official ribbon-cutting business. He had stayed the night. His only retinue was his driver/guard.

She showed us her guestbook, where across one whole page was scrawled, "Charles."

My friend got to stay in the room he'd stayed in, so that she could afterwards tell people that yes, she had shared Prince Charles's bed. (I can only say that I shared his driver's bed. )

I've never forgotten that the future King of England chose to stay in a bnb that I could afford. It was 27 pounds a night.

5. Sorry, I did that on a computer where the C doesn't work, and this was about Class,

so I had to switch computers when I realized that I would have to write about how "the UK is weird about lass, and also here was my enounter with Prine harles. "

6. last time I went to England, with a bf

he wanted to see Stonehenge, I was like, fuck, IT'S JUST A PILE OF ROCKS, if you've seen a picture YOU'VE SEEN IT (I saw it during school trips as a kid). But he just had to see it so we flew from Dallas, plane was delayed, then we had problems getting to the site - by the time we got there we had been up a LONG time....he looks and says, IT'S A PILE OF ROCKS.....We checked in at a B & B early afternoon and promptly fell asleep. Later the host lady mentioned to her husband, two Americans checked in and I have heard NOTHING from then since! She was truly spooked....they debated whether to knock to find out if we were OK but decided against it. We woke up very late and missed our chance to go get something to eat so that lady made us some nice sandwiches.

7. Not exactly what you asked for, but friends of ours ran a B&B

in a town near us. They were very active Democrats.

Because of the Iowa caucuses, when candidates were in our neck of the woods they would often stay at their B&B. If they didn't stay, candidates would usually swing by and give a speech and shake some hands.

Mrs. B&B has passed on and her husband spends most of his time back east with the grandkids.

Hillary, Biden, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, John Kerry were some I can remember.

10. Iguanas at our B&B on Cozumel. They were everywhere (just not in the house)

but we could see them frolicking in the sun from our window on the second floor.

13. We honeymooned in Arles, France

We stayed at a B&B in the old city. It was in late March so it was off-season and we were the only guests.

It was a lovely house that was over 400 years old and the owner had outfitted the roof with a patio and a complete covered kitchen. We had many of our dinners up there over looking the city and its river.

The 3 bedrooms were right next to one another so we were glad that no one else was there. After all, it was our honeymoon!

One night while we were having after dinner drinks on the roof, a couple in a neighboring house became engaged in a romantic encounter and we were treated to an aural symphony of love, passion and lust. Once again, we were glad we were they only guests that week.
