Hooray for me!

I'm a 75 female retired senior with medical disabilities. I have been living in an independent living facility for disabled and old folks in Dallas. Two weeks ago, the facility gave us 30 days notice to depart. I have been going thru Hell, jumping thru hoops and over obstacles to find a place. Rents in Dallas are atrocious, all the apts want income to be 3 times the rent, which starts at about 1200-1500/mo. What's a Sr on SocSec supposed to do?

Well lucky me! I found a great affordable situation in a nice neighborhood this morning. So I get to say my 2 favorite words in the English language -- PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

May all beings be happy and have all the causes and conditions for happiness.

I'm 65 and had been renting spare rooms for a couple of years. I decided I wanted to get my own place again and decided a 55+ would be nice. I found a new place that was opening up near where I worked. It turns out I make too much to qXualify for the subsidized rent of $800 a month, but the "market" rent is $1400 for a 1 BR! Not no, but HELL NO! Fortunately I found a small, old complex. It's rundown, but it's quiet and my apartment is okay.

I know too many older and disabled folks who are being evicted so landlords can reconfigure and renovate and charge 2-3 times the prior rate.

Several of my clients can not find any other place to live. They'll be on the street beginning in a north-east fall and winter.

Be sure to thoroughly evaluate your new neighborhood for safety and security concerns.

I'm nearing 75 and like you, existing mostly on SocSec. My adult son stays with me and he's a good helper. I can't imagine having to relocate new, as I'm now trying to down-size and simplify my life -- complicated by too many hobbies, past obsessions and multiple professions....

May peace and joy be with you......

I imagine there are similar stories all over the country. Many will not have this good result. This country has become harsh for many people. I live in East TN, there are companies coming to our county, building big facilities. There are huge numbers of apartments being built, many of the workers for those companies will not be able to afford the rent in them.
