There was a comedian? radio show host? who did this kind of thing back in the '60s. One I remember was about aliens/ufos another at a political convention. Anybody remember those? I googled around and couldn't get anything even close to come up. Anybody have links handy to share?

He is best known for inventing and using the technique of the "break-in", an early precursor to sampling, that used brief clips of popular records and songs to "answer" comedic questions posed by voice actors on his novelty records.
