anyone here read 'a promised land' ?

i pulled out a tshirt from 2004, for christine cegelis for congress. some old timers here will remember that race, where we didnt win, but came close enough to make hyde retire. raja krishnamoorthi is the rep now.

it reminded me of the 1st and best time i met this skinny dude everyone was talking about, who was running for senate. i've had a few other short interactions w him. it was a magic night.
the heart of this district was dupage county. 'dupage dems' had been an affable bunch of losers, but that year was the start of a trend that. on '18 added 4 new dems to the county board, in 2 yrs later widened that margin, and elected a dem county clerk.
a fellow state senator introduced him in hushed and reverent tones. the packed auditorium went wild.

knowing who he was, i wondered ever since if he remembered that night, and just assumed he did cuz he's him. i know when he walked out he was all smiles, cuz i was driving my art car around as folks were leaving, passed the 2 of them coming out, and got huge smiles and waves from both.

but putting on the shirt, i wondered- did he put it in the book?
so i ask those who read/own the book. is there a rally described, the weekend before the 04 election?

i've fallen out of the practice of reading books lately, and i keep meaning to fix that. but i dont think i'll start that w his weighty tome.

i hope this isnt too political for the lounge.
