Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsBoo hoo! I've binged all Inspector Lynley murder mysteries
They're on Britbox. I recommend them for British-mystery buffs. Nathaniel Parker is very handsome as Lord Lynley, and Sharon Small is excellent as working class partner Barbara Havers. Great working relationship and you really come to care about the characters.
The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.

(51,308 posts)Ive watched all the Vera shows.
Have you seen those?
Thanks for the suggestion!

(10,497 posts)Binged them all, and keep hoping for new episodes. The Inspector Lynsley series was on the old PBS Mystery series. I'd never seen them.
There are 6 seasons. Fans had a write-in campaign for more episodes, but, sadly, there are only 6 seasons.

(28,769 posts)I have Britbox too, I love British police procedurals. My current binge choice is Vera; if you haven't watched that yet, I highly recommend.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)Outstanding. I love how, in the UK, you don't have to fit a certain physical style or age to get your own show.
Still awaiting new Midsomer Murders eps. No clue when they'll drop
barbtries
(28,769 posts)Another one I go back and back to is the Sherlock Holmes series from the 90s with Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke. I'm also a true crime fanatic, which youtube has a bunch of vloggers doing at the moment.
since trump left office i can hardly watch news; i just read DU
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)I'll watch PBS Newshour only. I'm right now watching Miss Marple with Joan Hickson. Imo, the best Marple ever
barbtries
(28,769 posts)I've watched them all but never remembered the actors' names.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)But what a character.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)I watched them all at least twice, and now Im reading all the Ann Cleeves books lol.
Ive read the books about Lynley, but somehow missed that on Britbox!
Have you seen any of the Sister Boniface ones?
barbtries
(28,769 posts)I'm reading the Spellman Files and the Bosch series right now (didn't care for the show).
i do love Vera even though she's abusive toward her team from time to time. Brenda Blethyn is a stellar actress, and what I love about the British shows especially is the production values, the scenery, etc. Oh yeah and the accents. lol

(51,308 posts)And its available at Food Lion and Publix believe it or not. I have to make the chips from scratch myself, never found any frozen that are any good.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Plus she has another detective named Jimmy Perez, and those stories take place in the Shetland Islands. I just finished the fourth.
Yeah, i totally love Brenda Blethyn.
barbtries
(28,769 posts)and I really enjoyed them. I've tried the Father Brown (?) series too, but didn't like it so much. too much religion.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)That was good.
Theres another couple police dramas I watched, cant think of the names now. One was very violent, but still a good show. Ill try and find the names.
barbtries
(28,769 posts)is it on BritBox?
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Olivia Coleman is in it, and thank god I just remembered her name. A fun watch.

(3,813 posts)Vera too. And all of the Morse related series.

(10,497 posts)Thought Endeavour was on Acorn or Britbox, but can't find it now. Also looking for Lewis

(10,497 posts)Its bizarre, a girls body was found in a cornfield. Now, no other episodes.
barbtries
(28,769 posts)i have signed onto a channel for a particular show and canceled it as soon as I was done. However, I think it also possible that you will find Endeavor on your PBS channel. They stream a lot, I think this was a Masterpiece Theater show. I donate $60/year to my local PBS station and have access to a lot of TV. And I only watch everything on my computer or very occasionally, my Roku via streaming. I don't have cable.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)Very kind. I can watch these shows all day
barbtries
(28,769 posts)i'm not an outlier. plus i've learned about some shows i hadn't already seen - there are dozens more that i have. Dangerous Davies for instance. loved that.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)McDonald and Dodds (sp?). It's a recommendation if you like mysteries

You're welcome

(51,308 posts)Check out the Rev series. Really good. Has the woman who played the queen in the Crown. Senior moment tonight and cant remember her name.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)Yes, I binged The Crown, too lol. I'm a Princess Margaret groupie. Fascinating woman
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Kind of tragic, but I think she had a good life overall. Certainly had some fun!
Cigarettes did her in, poor thing.

(139 posts)I highly recommend "Scott and Bailey" from ITV.
Scott & Bailey, an engaging crime drama that ran for five seasons starting in 2011, features two women detectives solving murders for the Manchester police. Each episode focuses on the partnership of Detective Constables Rachel Bailey (Suranne Jones) and Janet Scott (Leslie Sharp) and their boss, Detective Chief Inspector Gill Murray (Amelia Bullmore). Like her, Murrays boss is also a woman, and the show is largely written, produced, and directed by women.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)I'll check it out

(28,769 posts)that turned out too soap operish for me?
On the other hand i loved the one with Helen Mirren, the name escapes me, and the one with the actress from the X-files.
Once upon a time I would know all of the names. now i forget the name of a movie i watched last night. it's frustrating because sometimes it's really good or really bad and I try to tell a friend and am just like, "this movie i watched last night..."

(51,308 posts)Could not figure out why it wasnt in the fridge.
Really bothered me for a bit until a friend reminded me she saw me put the remote in the fridge once, and that was 30 years ago. Ive always been very ADHD, but as I age I tend to read into my absent-mindedness.
Im so easily distracted
.loading the dishwasher, then a dog drags a sock to me, so I begin gathering laundry, then the dog offers its soft belly, so I have to pet it, then I notice the bird feeders are empty
theres really no end to it

(16,373 posts)Lynley's rich, sort-of girlfriend. It is a good show, though, and he is, indeed, good looking.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)They had zero chemistry and she was sort of rude to Havers once, and just unpleasant. I liked the new Helen.
XanaDUer2
(10,497 posts)Set in early 60s Australia. Lady detective whos also a local councilwoman. Hasn't caught me yet, but I'll give it another chance. On Britbox

(21,841 posts)Rebus (a Scottish detective) Season One started off with John Hannah playing Rebus but the rest of the series Rebus was played by Ken Stott. "Based on the novels by Ian Rankin, this gritty crime drama stars BAFTA Award winner John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral) and Laurence and Olivier Award winner Ken Stott (The Hobbit) as gruff Scottish detective John Rebus. The world-weary policeman investigates the grisly crimes that mar Edinburgh's historic streets in these sharply written and intricately plotted mysteries."
