Hiccup remedies

my husband and I would kiss them away, which was easy and painless. it mostly worked, but once in awhile, the hiccups didn't stop. Our next sure cure was filling a glass with water, lighting a match, blowing it out and puttingit in the water. Then drink 10 swallows of water. Drink the water, but don't drink thr match. It works almost every time.

Anyone else have a tried and true hiccup cure?

Fill a glass with water and place a clean face cloth over the glass and drink the water through the face cloth.

and the match is interesting.

The one that works every time but I am loathe to think of it;

fill a regular teaspoon with granulated sugar - less than full is good, any kind will do, then add enough water to completely drench the sugar then swallow it. It's kind of gross but when I get desperate after a long spell of them, I'll do that and they'll be gone within a minute or less. Hiccups give me a headache after about five minutes so I try to get rid of them quickly.

Sometimes drinking water helps, some say breathe into a paper bag... the only one that never fails is the watery sugar thing.

32. Story to go with that:

My mom's two grandchildren were visiting when the granddaughter, the older of the two at age six, got the hiccups. Mom got a spoonful of sugar, wet it down, and fed it to the girl, and the hiccups promptly went away. The grandson, age three, watched as his sister got a spoonful of sugar, and momentarily started hiccuping! Went to Grandma and told her he had hiccups. But he was clearly faking it--he just wanted the sugar, and the attention. He got neither. Wise grandma.

eraser on the other and then try to drink a glass of water. Worked most of the time and you get your shirt wet as an added benefit.
Now this one has worked a few times and it seem magical b/c they instantly go away.
I got the hiccups at my favorite drinking establishment. The bartender took a half sliver of orange and put a few drops of Angostura bitters on it. She said suck on this. BOOM they went away. Have not tried this at home but it works in a bar... YMMV..

They lasted a solid 4 days! No lie. He even hiccuped when he slept. (Not as frequently, tho. )
We tried everything.

The ONLY thing that worked was smoking pot. Helped immensely for a few hours at a time.

Put your chin on your chest and breathe deeply. It's supposed to straighten out your esophagus to make it stop spasming.

I get hiccups when I cough a lot (asthma). I used to have a cat, whose eyes would get real big when it happened, then he'd walk over and bite me. Murphy did not tolerate no shit!

I usually try holding my breath or drinking water. The match in the water works the best.

it stop spasming, which is what my Dr. insists is what hiccups are. Stop holding your breath after each hiccup, and then start again. This works for me and my family.

Between your teeth about halfway back, kinda like a bit in your mouth. Tilt your head back, and drink a few swallows of water without closing your mouth.

Messy, but it gets the job done…lol.

(There’s a reason it works, but I can’t remember it.)

The pencil isn’t really needed. It’s the keeping open of the mouth while swallowing that’s supposed to facilitate the process.

Some people can’t do it. (I wonder if it’s the same people that can’t swallow an aspirin…lol.) I do know it works for me.
