I live in Bumfuck Texas, the reddest area of the red state of Texas. So a week or so ago I see these white spray paint markings on the street. Then I saw trucks with orange PVC pipe and big non-descript boxes.
So today I see some guys actually working at putting this stuff in ground so I roll the window down and ask, "Whatcha' doin'?"
"Well Sir, we're putting fiber in."
"As in internet fiber?"
"Yes Sir."
"Halleluiah praise Jesus and Thank Ya' Biden we's gettin' real high speed internet!!"
"Yessir, and pleased to bring it to ya'."
No more $90 for 5 mbps and loss of service every time it storms! No more shit attached to the top of my house! 200 mbps for $50 and no down time! Praise the Lord and the Infrastructure Act!

Smart of you to remind WHO IT IS - owed thanks. President Biden. Not that weird old orange dude.

(111,237 posts)and about 3 miles from the state U. I saw them running cables down in the sewers in 1998 and called the phone company and got one of the first DSL hookups in my area. It was an internal modem with a 2 hour timer, but it was pure heaven after dialup. No more dropouts and "buffering" nag screens on internet radio. My only problem was convincing them that yes, I could install the damned thing myself, thanks very much.
I'm glad the cables are being run in more rural areas. Satellite is OK but it gets expensive and doesn't like hailstorms or snow. Chances are the cables have been planned in your area for years, but yay Biden for getting it funded and done.
