Radio Insomnia

Couldn't get to sleep last night...

Saw this ancient paint splattered, dingy cosmic blue colored jewel gathering dust in a corner, and dug it out.

National NC- 77X. Very rare. A.m. and shortwave (f.m.? What's that?), all American 5 design, but with a transformer to keep you from getting electrocuted, 5 tubes, copper plated chassis, extremely well built with high quality components.

Did I say rare?

Great late night companion from late 1950's, early 1960's.

A.m. bandsccan.

8 ft. Wire antenna.

Made completely in the USA.

Beat frequency oscillator (for hearing single sideband ham and military transmissions, among others, and code wave Morse code), electrical band spread (fine tuning on steroids).

Love those heterodyne howls and whistles.

It's an acquired taste.
