The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWent to Oktoberfest today.
It's been two years since the last one.
Got there to take pictures of the Beer wagon and landlords parade. Rain was forecast for the whole day.
We were lucky and the rain held off until just before noon and teh parade was over. It started just before the tapping of the first keg.
10C, 50F, Thousands lining lining the short route for this parade. Thousand already in the tents waiting for the Ceremonial tapping of the first keg by the mayor.
People going onto the carnival rides. What's the wind chill on one of those tall spinning rides at 10C with rain???
People were dampened but not their spirits.
More rain all day tomorrow but the big parade is happening. I'm planning on getting out to see it. the costumes, sorry, traditional dress, are great. More Lederhosen and Dirndl than you can shake a stick at.

(3,563 posts)However it was moved so that the end was the first weekend in October. It was eather related. The projections for this years event, which started at 50F, is for a fair amount of rainy days and the potential of snow for the first weekend of October. Brrr.
That being said. We already have displays out for the seasonal Lebkuchen, gingetbread, and I saw Stollen already just today...
So seasonal creep is here in south Germany.

(21,417 posts)Oh well. Here in western NY I saw Christmas tree displays in a store already. If this pattern continues, we will have Christmas right after Labor Day and skip Halloween and Thanksgiving.
I thought it was mostly an American thing to skip to Christmas at the end of summer.

(3,563 posts)Called Gregg Eastervrook, had a universal theory of creep. He would publish examples in his columns during the season of ever earlier things happening. Car model years were one.
One of the best was a food item whose use by date was before the date of the acctual event.
