Though the calendar still says "September", we are definitely in October's dooryard.

This next month will provide breathtaking color on wooded hillsides, crystal-blue skies filled with vees of southbound geese, a pollen-ending frost and the season's first fire in the fireplace.

Shorts, tees and flip-flops will be replaced by jeans, flannel shirts and boots.

Grass mowing will give way to wood splitting.

Wind chimes, lawn chairs and potted plants will be brought inside while bird feeders and the wood crib resume their outside winter places.

There are mowers to winterize, sweet potatoes and horseradish to be dug up and apples to pick.

And, at least so far as I know, I will be healthy enough to enjoy it all.

Is it any wonder October is my favorite month?

someone flipped a switch on September 23rd. September 22 it was in the low 80s. Its been struggling to get out of the 50s for daytime highs ever since.

It definitely feels like autumn here in western NY, but a rainy, blustery autumn. More like November than the end of September. 🌧🌬

It is chilly here in S.E. Ohio, and as the post above notes, it is like someone hit a switch. I get more done on the cooler days, but today, after I got home, I realized I was cold and couldn't stop yawning. Changed from shorts to sweats and made a cup of Lipton's tea with real brown sugar. I am cured and ready to work through the evening. I started a booth in a vintage mall last month, and need to put inventory tags on the items, wrap and pack. Maybe by the time I go to bed, I'll have shaken the notion that I'm living in a museum warehouse.

I had some brown sugar boba tea last year, and learned I really like brown sugar in my tea. Having it that way from now on.

Here's to October! Cheers!
