(22,767 posts)And it's very timely, as well. We're getting ready to do some work on the outside of the house, and one thing I want to do is add a small porch to the front. Our house faces the north down here on the southern plains, and when it's very windy, which is pretty often, opening the front door is a nightmare! Frigid air blows straight into the living area.
Constructing something like this as a porch, facing the house instead of away, would block the wind without blocking the light or the view of the skies to the north when storm watching. It would also give us more space by adding a cozy place to sit outside. Could easily trim out the other side to be somewhat decorative.
I notice that the two doors with the small 4 pane lights are dutch doors. It would be nice to be able to open the tops sometimes to allow in a light breeze, but I doubt we'd ever be able to find those used at a decent price. And price is going to be important as we haven't a lot of money and, as usual, will be doing the work ourselves.
Thank you for the idea!

(3,435 posts)..doors used as patio doors..say a pair used, weathered French doors where some artiste acrylic paints or uses mosaic medium art on glass. As an artist, I would add some some color, etching, stained glass feature to window panes to give more of an artistic flair.
Thanks for post. I have an area where using doors as fencing would really be unique..say about 16 ft or so in a small rose garden area that I revived after leasing my home for 6 yrs where it was neglected-- lost half my rose bushes .. 😢. It took a lot of hard work and get care to get it to full bloom. Problem I have is a very shady area that I've been unable to grow any natural screen..even tried bamboo and that grows everywhere! Damn would sure like some some privacy from a nosy neighbor, yet a block wall won't work, wood fence not original.
Anyway... reading DU responses to post, one mentioned a fence on neighborhood was made up of mismatched (my assumption) doors..hmm 🤔 what a novel idea!
