It's had some disappointing appearances in commercials and films, but the full version remains one of my all-time favorities.

11. A few years back I read an article about the evolution of modern rock...

The article basically identified two periods: before Heroes and after Heroes.

I’m not savvy enough to debate the accuracy of that statement in terms of the overall course of rock history, but as a Bowie fan for many decades the idea immediately appealed to me.

13. Wish I'd seen that article! Do you remember why they said "Heroes" was so

transformative? A lot of unusual work did go into creating and recording that track - that album.

But I remember in general terms that they traced the arc of music (chiefly British rock) and noted a distinct change in direction after Heroes.

When Rykodisc released the first CD versions of those albums, one of the bonus tracks on Heroes was an instrumental titled Abdulmajid. I played the disc in college, and a friend of my roommate said "that sounds just like..." I can't remember the band that they cited, but it was a then-very-current name. Maybe Depeche Mode or The Cure--about 15 after Heroes.

12. Bowie used to wrestle people to the ground and jam cigarettes into their mouths

True fact, look it up!

Also, RJ Reynolds is terrible in live performances, so there’s really no comparison.

It's a young adult movie but it has a great soundtrack.

It's a great scene where they used this song.

Soundtrack is listed here...
