Bred for endless puppies. Tied up on a chain. Down to just 12.5kg (25lbs). Unrecognisable as a Golden Retriever.

That was 3 weeks ago. I told Tina she'd get a special treat if she survived and got up to 20kg.

Today she got her 100 tennis balls...

And afterward when she found love being showered on her brings a tear to my eye, there’s nothing in her eyes but love and peace now, thank you to her savior(s) from the bottom of my heart.

I have two rescues, a Torbie found as a stray at 1-1/2 years old who did nothing but attack us for the first week after we brought her home, it took awhile but she’s the most beautiful girl full of nothing but sweetness and love now.

And my little boy, rescued at one year from people who mistreated him and never showed any love to him, when I got him I was told that he loved cats, was neutered, housebroken and had all his shots.

None of this was true, the people I got him from lived in the same apartment complex as my Daughter, I had been looking for a new best friend for about a year but as Covid had been let loose the local humane society couldn’t keep small dogs in stock, they’d get one and have twenty people trying to be first in line to adopt them.

The “owners” said they were leaving town the next day and they were going to drop him off at the humane society.

The humane society was closed the next day, what I found out was that they were just going to leave him behind while they drove to their new life elsewhere.

So he came home with me, he was so starved for attention he tried to sit in my lap on the way home.

He got his shots, was neutered, housebroken and now loves his sister the cat so much they sleep together.

He’s half chihuahua, half some kind of terrier although I suspect it may be werewolf or honey badger instead.

He’s 23 pounds, legs that go all the way up, there’s never been a Chihuahua that has the energy or physical ability he does.

He dances, forward, backward, sideways, he can jump straight up about two feet easily.

He has more pulling power on his leash than his size would tell you.

He does have separation anxiety and it may never go away but he gets nothing but love from us, he’s found his forever home.

I wondered about a name for him for a few days but it became obvious to me, he won’t leave my side, he’s laying next to me as a write this, he’s my little boy, he’s family.

He’s my “Shadow”

Please adopt the mistreated or unwanted, they are out there waiting for you…..

I'm sure there are some good ones, but there seem to be a lot of assholes in that line of work.
