I'd have been tempted to call it a butterfly octopus!

(8,790 posts)it is just one of many weird mutations caused by the Gulf Oil Spill or Exxon Valdez mishap.........
The shrimp in the gulf have figured out a way to find and eat food, because most of them were blinded by the continuing oil in the water.
There is a continuing nightmare in the Gulf because of the BP? oil rig blowout..... and other wells leaking, but you never hear about them.

(1,366 posts)They are found on coral reefs, certainly NOT Alaska and in some of the cleanest water on the planet.
And most shrimp feed by smell or by touch not by vision. Speaking of vision,
Mantis Shrimp can see in in twelve channels of color, UV spectrum, and polarized light.
Much wider range than mere humans.
So try for more realistic nonsense if you have to add comments like that
I will limit my sense of humor.
You seem to have a better grasp than most of us about oceans......Maybe you can tell me about:
Why did Jane Lubchenco, one of the worlds foremost experts on oceans, exit the Biden administration during the gulf blowout????

(1,282 posts)I grew up a fundamentalist Christian. I began questioning at age 23 and by 30 I was an atheist. I can't get over how ridiculous is the idea of an intelligent creator. It just brings to mind the biblical creation myth.

(5,327 posts)Instead of admiring the beauty of this creature, which is the point of this video, you have to translate everything into what is relevant to you.
You hate religion, I get it, but try not to be so easily triggered, ok?
(I am an atheist too. Don't feel a need to bring it up though.)

(1,282 posts)Because there's no need to get on me like that, ok? For the most part, I write where my mind goes. This doesn't keep me from appreciating what I see.
I apologize for nothing.

(90,556 posts)I never gave up on a sense of the divine, but finally couldnt take the contortions of trying to verbally separate from the increasingly vile & intolerant Republican Supply-Side Jesus. I finally decided that they had indeed created a god in their own image, and he was a mean, nasty, intolerant, punitive god
Whatever they wanted to call him, it didnt comport with what I believed. Read their Book? Absolutely I did. Jesus didnt come off as a bad person at all, in either the King James or Modern English versions. Seems to be a separate god entirely.
But by the time I sorted it all out, I was off in another direction anyway. Myth as metaphor, and I like the one about the Mother of All giving birth to all. I refrain from humorous bumper stickers like My Goddess gave birth to your God because I have just the one car and dont want it trashed.
