George Bernard Shaw had a dim view of supercilious people like Henry Higgins, and he never intended for Eliza Doolittle to hook up with him. In fact, Shaw wrote a kind of sequel to Pygmalian in 1916 describing how Eliza ended up marrying Freddy and opening a flower shop in London near where she was originally found selling flowers on the street.
