5. I love the drive over Snoqualmie Pass.

The mountains are beautiful, and much cooler than the sweltering inland empire.

It was 90° when I left Kennewick, and “just” 76° when I got over the Cascades.

8. A medical conference in Kennewick.

I usually enjoy out-of-town trips. A long, quiet drive and some enjoyable solitude.

This time was different. It’s been decades since I visited the inland empire this time of year. Stupefyingly hot, enervating, headache-inducing weather. The conference itself was, shall I say, uninspiring. I got my continuing education hours in, and that was the whole point.

But I won’t be attending that particular conference again.

It’s good to be home…
