My grandson finally got a job.

Delivering pizza.

He lets me and Mrs. Aristus know he is not happy about it.

He'll drag himself into the house after a crippling four hours of work, and haul himself up the stairs with a look of agony on his face, all but doing the back of the hand to the forehead thing.

Yep. We spoiled him. Love the boy; he's my angel. But his work ethic needs a little work of its own.

She needed to work to support them both, so she delivered pizzas for nine years. Eventually, she went back to school and now earns a good living as a medical coder. She set a good example for her son, but he's not following it.

I spent in retail. Hats off to the folks that keep our stores running but I wasn't cut out for it.

I could not fathom doing it long term.

Before he knows it, he will be breezing through twelve hour shifts, six days a week, and partying all night after work.

I am sure he will be comforted to hear this...

"Work hard today!"

"How was work today?"

That kind of thing. We're worried that this will just encourage him to quit, just like he's quit every other job he's had in the last two years or so.

Heck, he quit a job that was basically tailor-made for him: checking ID's at the local cannabis store. Easy job, laid back atmosphere, pretty good pay. He just didn't want to work eight hour shifts.

Working 22 hours a week seemed like really a grind. I was stunned to learn my manager there was putting k. 44-46 hours a week, completely oblivious to the fact that my dad was putting in 50-60 hours a week for years on end.

Time seems longer for younger people. 4 hours seems like an eternity when it’s your first job. Know that this generation will have to work harder, longer, and with much smaller margins for screw ups to have half of what previous generations took for granted.

Just the first one he's had since Mrs. Aristus and I told him he's moving out at the end of June, job or no job.

Before that, he was just playing video games all day and getting high on cannabis.

But he is still out of work, lives with my ex for free now, use to pay him rent.

He used to work at Honda dealer where my older daughter is top management just delivering cars to different dealerships and picking up. Easy job but quit that to move away after his girlfriend got pregnant didn't like how unmotivated he was and moved back with family in Minnesota.

Then he returned few months later no job living with my ex. He has tried a few places but nothing yet. Owner asked my daughter not to hire him back said he needed to grow up and be on his own. She also has spoiled him felt guilty after her divorce.

I love the kid so much, just wish he could find himself. We did long hike together few weeks ago when I was down in CA to visit.

When I was a kid, my Dad was convinced that I was not going to do anything with my life (and wasn't shy about telling me that, either). Now I have a yearly salary that's higher than his ever was.

My worry about my grandson is not that he won't be able to support himself, but just that, on his current course, I don't see how his life is fulfilling in any way.

His mother was once as lazy as he is, but has really shown herself now to be a responsible career woman. She's trying to crack the whip on him.

My daughter is super motivated has been since she was a teen. Was made manager at copy store at 17. She worked her way from receptionist at dealership to practically running the place and making big bucks. She has been there 20 yrs.

Damie has been lazy all his life playing video games. We tried to warn his mom but she was just getting into management and spending more time at work.

One thing I did was take him in the summers when he was preteen, took him hiking camping all over Canada. Then he acted bored. Now he hikes and camps on his own and meditates. There's that

And then joining th military set that in concrete. Of course I'm female so it was a safer choice for me than it would be for your little drama queen.

When I was my grandson's age, I was already a Gulf War veteran, a tank sergeant, and the trainer for my platoon's seven new tankers. And, although I hadn't signed for them, I was responsible for the day-to-day care and maintenance of a Humvee, a deuce-and-a-half truck, and a five million-dollar tank.
