Rode it during my brief glorious stint as a hardcore exercise/fitness cyclist. Summer and fall 1991.
Been hanging in the garage ever since. Thousand dollar top of the line Cannondale. What a damned shame.
If I didn't already know the answer, I'd ask WTF is wrong with me.
Here it is:

(36,818 posts)I even ride a roadbike here in North Texas where it's considered quite sporty to run cyclists into the ditch or worse. Plus many roads with cracks twice as wide as my wheels can form in a few days.

(6,581 posts)I've never drank. My uncle was a 39 year old cop. Got into a head on on a hilly, curved road, hit by a drunk who crossed the center line. Died 10 days later in the ICU, had a couple of lucid days when he was doing better, then crashed. The drunk had scratches and bruises. Pretty strong feelings about alcohol, never drank at all. I don't begrudge those who drink responsibly, just the ones that abuse it, especially if they get behind the wheel. Just me.

(6,581 posts)The 25 year old kid gave me a "WTF" look too, fat old guy with a bike to him. But he was nice after I got going.
Pick up Tuesday night.
Was surprised at the bike shop, thought it would be a little hole in the wall, but actually quite large and nice.

"Bicycles are a very essential element in most people's lives in Denmark," he says. "We have them as small infants and all the way up through the ages."
He's not kidding. Another rider, 83-year-old Soulva Jensen, is using the highway to visit her daughter in a neighboring town.
"The trains are too much trouble at the moment, so I thought it was easier to take the bike," she says.
Once the highway network is completed, an estimated 15,000 additional people will switch from driving to biking. And that, say officials, will have a direct impact on the environment, public health and finances. The bike highway alone is expected to save Copenhagen's health care system some $60 million a year.

(6,581 posts)Plus a bazillion miles of quiet residential streets, so it is very good place to bike.
