Can someone explain honey boo hoo to me?

I googled it, and I still can't figure out just what it is they're up to. One link said it had more viewers than Bill Clinton's convention speech. I think kulture shock has finally hit me.

9. I like a good train wreck as much as the next person, so I gave in and watched it last week.

10 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Mr. k walked in the living room, watched it for about 30 seconds, said wft is this shit? and promptly changed the channel.

7. If I use the term "trailer trash" this post will be hidden, so I won't use it, but...

there is a trailer somewhere and a lot of trash lying around. Nor will I give a physical description of this little pageant star, or her mother. These things may be seen, but not spoken of. (At least around here)

I thought the wee child beauty contests were the nadir of civilization, but I never considered a spinoff would be possible. Turns out the spinoff is possible, and worse than anything even my most fevered brain could imagine.

I don't really think the American public is terribly interested in the daily life of a "Toddlers and Tiaras" star and her little beauty pageants, but said public is always fascinated by train wrecks, fires, multi-car collisions, explosions, and other forms of destruction. And this is a new form to be stared at in fear and disbelief.

I could be wrong but I suspect that they really don't understand how tragically ignorant they are.

Still, I have similar thoughts - it doesn't seem right to use poor and ignorant people for amusement

I also just had a horrible thought - what if they are smart enough to make a college fund for her and ends up at the state school where I work?
