Wife is thinking of Christmas/Holiday gifts already. We are having an engraving debate.

For my grandmother she wants to get my grandmother this silver tree thing with photo frames hanging on it they call it a family tree.

I told her engrave The _______(our family last name) Family

She was thinking of having this:

In happiness and sorrow

With laughter and tears

Always, Family.

I told her do whatever she wants. She's a woman and she knows what another woman is going to like but since this is for MY grandmother she wants me to make the choice.

so any suggestions?

I like your wife's sentiment.

"The ____ Family" sounds like something one would write on a family photo inside a Christmas card to acquaintances.

So that's if you go with the silver tree thing with photos in it.

My own personal preference is for gifts I don't have to dust off or find room for.

Food. Gift certificate for whatever I would like to buy. Magazine subscriptions. Crafting supplies. Bath or shower luxuries.

And NO clothing! Except for maybe scarves or something. I'm still trying to find a way to tell the family...without seeming like a rude ingrate...that they only waste their money when they buy me clothing. It's always either the wrong size (too small), or not my style. Even Mr Pipi knows not to buy me clothing.
