I'm recording albums for my sister, and one of the records is from a band called "Little Feat."
Never heard of them until today.
While they aren't nearly as bad as Steve Miller, they still suck. (IMO, of course.)

Otherwise I'd turn it into a cat toy after using it as a frisbee.

(9,974 posts)With catch phrases and the latest sayin' - basically to turn into hooks. Start after Breakfast - Do some random jamming, consolidate recent occurring licks from backstage warmup jamming, flip through the book to see if any of the ideas match up with the poetic meter of the hooks. Write a short intro, repeat the hook./lick Ad Nauseaeum with either a double entendre or "a manifesto of badass" verse, Call the manager and wake up the band. Burn lunch. Cut 9 songs in 7 hours, courier master tape to record label.

Archae - I have heard of (and even listened to!) Little Feat. They're not my favorite by any stretch of the imagination, but they're not as bad as many.

I never saw them live, but once I saw Bonnie Raitt with a backup band simply called
"Chicken Legs", was bowled over by them but didn't realize until AFTER the show that
they were "Little Feat" minus the departed Lowell George.
.
Maybe the best show I've ever seen.

(5,310 posts)...his first band, The Factory, included a guitarist named Warren Klein. Warren also played with Lowell in Little Feat.
(BTW, The Factory appeared as a frontier psychedelic rock band on an episode of the 1960s sitcom, F Troop.)
In 1987, Warren came to my recording studio in Pasadena and recorded a nice sitar track for a song called Bronson Caves, from an album called Mute Lament, by my band The Hundredth Monkey.
More significantly, Warren was a guitarist with The Fraternity of Man (Easy Rider movie/soundtrack: Don't Bogart Me, the song with the line "Don't Bogart that joint, my friend, pass it over to me" , and The Stooges (featuring Iggy Pop), in 1973.
Besides guitar and sitar, Warren also plays tamboura and dulcimer.
Anyway, I wouldn't be dissin Little Feat around here.

Everyone's likes and dislikes are different.
Mopar151
(9,974 posts)or had any taste. When other respected bands./musicans give them props, they are universally beloved by critics, and , to my ear, were awesome songwriters (Dixie Chicken, Willin', Spanish Moon), great arrangers, and players who stood out for their contributions to ensemble playing.

(5,310 posts)...which I do not care for, but, I don't start negative threads about them.
If anything, at least I'm not backwards-promoting them by complaining about them.
Ted Nugent is the worst "musician" I've ever had the displeasure of hearing.
Plus, he probably has very few defenders here at DU.
Personally, I think The Beatles are kinda overrated, but I still love em.
Mopar151
(9,974 posts)Showman - was a solid "A" in the late 70's, long decline since. Musican - B+, depends on attitude - far better as an ensemble player than a frontman - look at the video for Amboy Dukes "Journey to the center of the mind" vs. his "Wang Dang" period, or, more recently, his Damm Yankees work vs his solo FailFest. Human being - D-, in danger of failing course. Under the yearbook picture, his mantra for success : "Peter Frampton sounds great - on my friggin' stereo! If I'm drivin' a hundred miles and payin' $50 bucks to get in, I wanna see some wild fucker go nuts!"

(78,249 posts)Also, early Steve Miller doesn't suck. He started out in the SF blues-rock scene. "Livin' In The U.S.A.", for instance, doesn't suck.
Archae
(46,299 posts)Stupid lyrics, bad music and I saw an interview with Steve Miller himself, the guy has a negative IQ.
But how many times have I said I enjoy a lot of KC and the Sunshine Band, or Bee Gees, and people yell "Disco sucks!"

We all have different tastes in music, I just don't like Steve Miller, or Little Feat, or Bruce Springsteen.

(19,358 posts)And second that after listening to "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" you can actually say that LF sucks. Now I understand that different music appeals to different people and rightly so, but at bare minimum I would think you'd appreciate LF's song writing, arrangement skills, and overall musicianship.

(19,358 posts)Not being able to stand a certain band or genre of music is not the same. There are songs by virtually every artist I can think of that I do not care for. There are bands and genres that I don't care for too, but a band has to be pretty devoid of talent to warrant a "suck". In both of these examples (Rush and Little Feat), it's unquestionable that these band are superior musicians, whether one "likes" their music or not is simply a matter of personal taste IMO.
Taverner

(321 posts)They were one of the best things about the 70's (excepting water beds of course). Also Steve Miller Band's "Frankenstein" was AWESOME.
Now while I know that as a young person raised in the MTV era, you probably think that Britney Spears just "rocks out", and she apparently gives Bob Dole a woodie. However 70's rock is where it is at considering the bands (yes, actual bands) who didn't "lip sync" to music had actual talent.
Sit down with a few of those "sucky" albums, a bottle of good single malt, put on a black light and give it a chance. Preferably with a female companion named "candy" or "Sapphire" ...........
