Is the iPod touch (5) obsolete?

(Regarding hand-held Apple products only).

iPhones do it all with service anywhere.

iPod Nanos can give one all the music, books, photos, etc one wants.

iPads can do all that touch can do with a larger screens (new 7&quot that make everything easier and more pleasant (than a tiny 4" screen)

iPod touch (5th) needs wifi to use apps & internet service.

versus $850 plus for the iPhone 5 64gb with no plan.

Unless you want to use a phone it isn't a contest. iTouch wins.

Most the apps I have I can use offline. If I need internet on-the-go or maps I use my android phone. I didn't have wi-fi at home when I got the iPod which is what prompted me to get an inexpensive, no-contract smart phone.

I bought the Touch about a month ago. While I would have LOVED to have the iPhone so that I had true wireless internet anywhere with that, I just couldn't afford a monthly plan. This is a pretty good compromise, almost everywhere I personally go, except out on the road/trail, there is wifi of some sort I can log into for my limited needs. And, if I need access wherever, I just take my iPad with me, I have the AT&T monthly plan on that, which is reasonable, but I couldn't afford both devices with a monthly charge.

Other than the fact it ISN'T always connected, I find it pretty awesome. I was sitting in a McDonald's the other morning at 5 am watching ABC news online via their public wifi. And thinking that when I was a very young boy, television sets weighed up to a couple hundred pounds and more than half were still black and white (late 60s).

Now I have the damned thing on my forearm. Talk about capturing lightning in a bottle.
