If you are patient with dogs, this guy needs a home: Keenan, a bull mastiff (with issues)

Poor Keenan! His life has been four years of miscommunication. And now only an angel – one who understands doggie language – can save him. He needs you before September 30! Could you be that angel?

Maybe Keenan was attacked by another dog as a young pup. Or maybe there was some other unpleasant experience.

Whatever the case, he’s now a big, strong, dashing Bullmastiff with issues – particularly when it comes to other pets or strangers. He tries to tell people through his dilated pupils, yawning, panting, pacing, lip licking, and other cues. But no one has yet to catch on before he feels the need to act.

The result? Three bite incidences during his life.

The family tried trainers, but they used coercive tools like prong and E collars. Those methods usually backfire on sensitive breeds like Bullmastiffs. Sure enough, they made Keenan’s problems worse.

1. Best Friends does not euthanize dogs.

They are given homes until someone adopts them. I doubt that Sept. 30 will be his last day. I contribute to Best Friends because they take in homeless animals and do not put them down.

I don't think Best Friends actually has the dog, as you are definitely correct about their practices.

I hope someone does indeed step forward, but if nobody does, I hope Best Friends will.

3. I have a dog that is like this

He's a border collie and border collies aren't the best dogs to have around small kids anyway. The family that had him previously had an infant son. I just can't bring him around other strange dogs or small kids because he goes crazy. Around my other dog (which is about half his size) and people he knows he's the most gentle dog you can imagine. I think it is possible to train this sort of thing out, but it would take a lot of time and resources that most people just don't have. He would be best served by a family that doesn't have any small kids. Other dogs might be OK once he gets acclimated to them.

5. This poor boy needs the Dog Wisper, Ceaser Milan, he trains people

and rehabilitates dogs. He has saved many dogs from euthanasia. Check out his link below. This dog needs proper training. Crazy to use prong and e-collars.
