1. The real difference is in the training.

You can train a dog to fetch a ball, to get the paper, to sit, etc. The cat can train you to fetch the cat toy, get the paper, to sit etc.

Just be grateful the cat allows you to serve him or her.

2. Duh... it took me a few seconds to "get it".

I can identify most breeds of dogs, but cats do look a lot alike. I started watching "Cats 101" (something like that) on Animal Planet and can now recognize some different breeds. That one in the lower left corner is a Russian Blue. I know that because I used to have one.

4. For me I can ID *maybe* a persian or a siamese but everything else is 'cat.'

I have had several cats over the years and have enjoyed their company. But to my mind nothing can compare to an 80 lb golden retriever jumping in your lap and licking your face because he is so happy just to be with you.
