My friend was a little worked up for a few days, as you might imagine. I'm not sure how long their shifts are, but I think it's usually about two weeks on/off. The helicopter fleet in southern LA to ferry workers and supplies back and forth to the Gulf is HUGE.

Damn are those things antiquated - even by the '85 standards. That's why I was there - "human factors engineering", meaning, that if you have to rub your shoulder, comb your hair, and scratch your asshole all at the same time, can you do it? In most control rooms, the answer is "no".
