(9,099 posts)living alone in the woods does not feel safe to me and puts me miles away from anything and gas at close to $4 is a lot

(5,580 posts)The woods are safer than you can imagine apart from the odd wildlife. Most people are armed so you tend to be left alone if thats wbat you want but theres also a hell of a social scene if your into it. As to gas prices say your fifteen miles from town like i am then even with a suv its only a gallon one way so eight bucks round trip. Less if you make friends and combine trips. If as you say you need to seriously lower your costs then its much cheaper living of the beaten track.

(27,247 posts)Relatively low unemployment
Relatively low cost of living (also relatively low wages)
Four seasons, but not so much snow.
Most neighborhoods are safe, but apartment complexes can be iffy (mainly problems with vandalism, theft). Fayetteville is the most cosmopolitan city in the region because of the University of Arkansas. Bentonville (home to Wal-Mart) has some pretty decent neighborhoods. Rogers has a lot of affordable neighborhoods. Springdale is a mainly working-class town, and Rogers is largely working class but is also becoming a rich man's playground. There are also small towns like Farmington and Elkins, which are quasi-suburbs of Fayetteville.

Chapel Hill, NC (where I am) and she wants to come back.
Where do you live now? What kind of work would you like to do?
Have you done any research to determine unemployment rates in areas that appeal to you--go on Craigslist for
that area and check out rents/prices for housing?
Hang in there.
