Question about Hooters

I've never gone to one and I'm watching football this afternoon and have seen a couple of commercials for Hooters. My question is what percentage of their customers are women?

1. Per the article linked below, about 1/3 of their customers are women

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/09/the-end-of-men-for-real-hooters-is-desperate-for-female-customers/262407/

It surprises me the number is that high. I've only been in one and that was years ago when I was 15 or so. I don't eat chicken wings and I don't care for the uniforms. Plus large breasts just make me think about my own lower back pain (I'm male).

You'd want to see if your husband was there if it were you...

3. I'd like to think I could trust a partner not to go there if that was something that mattered

But for somebody who is often called a cynic, I can be somewhat naive.

6. Thanks for the link.........

1/3 rd of their customers are women, interesting. That's seems a reasonable percentage. I would have thought 25-30%.

5. I've been there a couple times years ago. The food really sucked. Edible, but not much

better than McRibs.

8. The industry name for "Hooters" "Twin Peaks" "Tilted Kilt" et.al. is "Breastaurants"

I swear, I am not making that up

Anecdotally: I don't see that many women customers at Hooters, but we have a Twin Peaks down the street, and I frequently see couples and even some families there.

9. Honestly, I am probably not in the majority of men in my opinion.

I find the entire concept of Hooters, along with more extreme examples, such as strip clubs, really disgusting and demeaning to women. I have never been to one if these facilities and never will.

19. Probably more feel that way than you think

And still others who have no objection in principle (and who are attracted to women) don't find the environment appealing. I think there's a certain amount of going along just to fit in that happens. I've never been to a Hooters or strip joint myself and I have a hard time imagining doing so absent really strong peer pressure. (And I'm sure I'd feel shitty about it afterward if I did go!)

I have heard a lot of locker room discussions from guys who do go to such places ("Tilted Kilt" seems to be the currently-favored chain) and heard gripes about Hooters food - which is probably mediocre at best, but complaining about food is also a good way to get out of going without making an issue of the "breastaurant" concept. A friend once was cajoled into a dinner at a place with topless waitresses, and he said it was really unpleasant for him - couldn't really enjoy the food and couldn't get into the ritual ogling. The server/sex object duality was just too weird to him.

I think too much "in-your-face" sexuality is unappealing to a lot of guys (probably not a majority, though). And that's even leaving aside any deeper worries about exploitation.

10. Breastaurants serve a purpose

Not a purpose that that I endorse, but the money is there.
Let Wing Stop make your wings.
Let your local tavern pour you beer.
Meet a nice barmaid if that's what you're into.

11. It Is A Great Family Restaurant!

My father used to bring the whole family there.
My mother, my two sisters and two brothers. He would bring his friends there too!

We would eat wings there some nights and I remember my father asking us to get there before a specific time so that we could reach happy hour and buy a ton of them.

I go there some times to watch big Prize Fights in MMA and Boxing.

I don't drink but I do like their wings.

13. I don't know, but if there was one near me, I would imagine

I would "up" that percentage. I've never been to one, but if their food is good, I'd have no problem going to one.

14. I've seen families there a few times.

And after eating there a few times, I'm convinced that the reason the owners make the girls wear skimpy clothes is to take the customers minds off how lousy the food is. Dress them normally and the place would go bankrupt.

15. Quite a lot. Kids too. And there are TV's EVERYWHERE! And bonus points - they serve draft beer!

On Edit: The only day my wife doesn't like to go is Thursday, and not because it's "No Pants Wonder Day". That's the day the waitresses wear "school girl" uniforms (with really short plaid skirts over shorts - skorts as she's always called them). That's just wrong and I agree with her. Other than that, it's a very pleasant place with good food and if you like sports bars I can't think of one that's designed better for the purpose.

16. I have gone there a few times.

I saw several families and other couples too. The food was okay. It sure didn't seem like the big den of iniquity that people make it out to be.

I don't think that their uniforms are any better or worse than summer clothes that you sometimes see.

18. no idea but why go to another boring chain?

I'm sure there is a great independent watering hole that could better use your business.

personally I would rather go to a real strip club than a fake boob restaurant chain. I mean if you are going to go gawk at breasts why not actually go where they are honest about it.

20. 1/3 as posted above seems about right

I've gone to the local Hooters a couple of times to go see their WWE pay-per-views. A lot of women were there, but they were watching wrestling, too.
