(149,296 posts)Part 1 of a heart stress test? Did they tell you what to expect?
I've had (and flunked) them. Perhaps I can help you...

(72,377 posts)what to wear. (Is this the running on the treadmill thing?) I think I will take my meds with me.
I wish I had thought of these questions before the weekend.

(149,296 posts)Can you call in the morning and ask before you go?
You Will Be Fine!
They do monitor you very closely during the treadmill, and afterwards. Not to worry...

(149,296 posts)There's no way you can embarrass yourself. They will keep you safe. This I know.

(53,661 posts)If anything starts to go wrong, they'll stop the test. No worse than a work out at the health club, really.
A rather vigorous one, maybe, but they'll take care of you and make sure nothing goes awry.

(41,915 posts)Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Most likely they'll stick electrodes all over you and you'll have to walk pretty quick for a while. I haven't done this but my husband has done a bunch and no running was involved. They won't make you do more than your knees, hips, etc. can do.

(2,682 posts)they will give you a drug that will speed up your heart rate as though you were running. It can feel "odd" but when the test is over (and it only takes a few minutes), they give another drug to slow it back down. In my case, I have bad knees and they decided to give me the drug. It made me sick to my stomach and light-headed; I thought I was going to pass out. They stopped immediately and I recovered in seconds. The next time I told them I would take my chances walking quickly with the bad knees rather than have the drug. If they give you the drug, you may not have the same reaction I did. At any rate, it isn't difficult, even when it's difficult.
