Although cute, it's a bad habit a to teach a dog, they often become annoying, so just don't, resit the temptation of cuteness.
I am dog adjacent for 65 years, and I have had my share, and I get a bit nuts when friends or family try to teach one of the dogs this trick. Take the time and teach him where the property line is !

... And I've also gotta say: I've never seen a pup go around working the crowd by glad handing.

I think his point is that dumb pet tricks are demeaning to the specific animal. And honestly: that's true. We turn them from living beings to toys and simple minded amusement.
