Anyone here keep a reef tank?
Here's a full tank shot of our 150 gallon system:

(14,910 posts)It's a very relaxing hobby; we enjoy it very much. It is a great way to unwind at the end of the day.
Looking at this photograph, however this is an old fts; judging by the fish (or lack thereof) I will have to get a more recent shot up.
That's my hobby, though...

(16,061 posts)I had a Lime Green one nail a Tri-Color Rock Beauty that I had waited two months for. He came out of the sand and hit it three times right after releasing it into the tank. BELLY UP!

(14,910 posts)I'm reaching my bio load here with the addition of my two most recent acquistions (which I am picking up today, in fact...)
Lochloosa
(16,061 posts)Where are you getting that information about reaching your "bio load"?
I had six salt tanks for over 10 years. My 30 gallons would support more than that.

1 Melanurus
1 Leatherjacket Filefish
1 Diamond Chain Gobi
8 Blue Green Chromis
1 Blue Hippo Tang
1 Pipefish
1 Sifting Starfish
6 Turbo Snails
...plus I am adding two new fish today; so mabye I'm being a little conservative on my bio load, sounds like I'm not far off from where you once were.

(12,132 posts)My daughter and I love watching that show on ANimal Planet where the two guys (and their families) build the beautiful tanks in Vegas. Well, they will build anywhere I guess but their shop is in Vegas. They're kinda goofy but lovable goofs. And they make some incredible tanks.

(14,910 posts)However I do believe that they build fish only systems, the coral and associated live vegetation is all fake.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)I guess I didn't even realize you were saying yours had live coral and stuff. That's even MORE impressive!

(14,910 posts)You've got some nice big anenome there...and some nice zoa colonies.
Kudos!

(12,799 posts)There aren't many places left for the next split to live.
We have a gold stripe maroon clownfish, larger than the tang, but he lives in the anenome so it's hard to get him on camera.

(14,910 posts)My father has a tomato clown that will draw blood if you get too near their anenome...

(12,799 posts)He limits our prospects for new fish, for sure. He doesn't like our hands in his tank and repeatedly attacks. It doesn't hurt, but it startles, so the reflex action is to jerk the hands out of the line of fire. It's funny. We finally figured out that if we want to work in the tank, the net goes in first. He attacks the net and we put him in the holding tank for the duration. His eyes are red so my granddaughter named him Demon. He lives up to the name. The Domino Damsel is almost as aggressive and almost as big, so they keep each other in line.

Beautiful tank and setup. I have only had fresh for 30+ years and not sure I have the commitment for a salt. I do love the look of Picasso Triggerfish.
