If you aren't sure about having kids... this might seal the deal.

Who else are you gonna dress up as your little Luke Skywalker?

Without children who else can you go to Ludicrous speed with?

.... oh my.... they have gone plaid.

But, I can do all of those things with my adult friends, too

I have no children. I want no children. Why do people insist on "changing my mind"?

But just make sure you don't go over my helmet to make a decision!

And really use the Schwartz to make your decision, it's the best way. Hopefully my Schwartz is bigger than yours...

Oye, I should go to bed now huh?

should mind their own business about things like that.

Because sometimes it's not that people don't actually want children...which there is nothing wrong with, IMO. Having kids doesn't automatically make one's life happier. Though heaven knows I would not trade my kids for the world, but I think you know what I mean. If I had never had them in the first place, I doubt I would have felt incomplete.

Anyway, to my point...my youngest stepdaughter and her husband had two miscarriages in the space of a year.

I haven't asked them...nor would I...if they ever intend to try again, but let me just say that without children (they do have a small dog) they have been able to do lots of traveling.

If they want any "baby-time" they have a nephew in TX, where they live, and a niece up here in MA.

Which is one good thing about other people's kids...you can always give them back to the parents.

I've noticed that most parents have this attitude about them that they're better than those of us without children. You seem to understand that's not true, and I'm glad you spoke up about it.

I have a cat. He may be getting older now (about 12) yet he still makes me laugh. I love him, though I think his love for me is closer to that ever-sought-after Unconditional Love. He's my "child" and I don't need a human one to be "complete".

And yes, I love my free time. I had a similar "discussion" with another parent on that topic, that he still saw going to the movies with his kids as free time. Sure, it's that for you. For me, that would not be free time, nor an enjoyable time.

Basically, it's better not to judge others. Some people make good parents. Some people don't, and we see the results in the news all the time. I'm glad I'm not a parent. It's not a job for which I feel I'm qualified, and I don't want to risk my mental health just to satisfy others' narrow-minded ideas.

doesn't really like kids much, either.

Oh, she's great with babies. But once they get older she does this disconnect thing.

I'm opposite. Not big into babies. Toddlers...trying to amuse them is frustrating, exhausting, boring, etc.

My grandkids are 11, 9, and 8 1/2. They started getting pretty cool once they each reached, oh, about 7 years old.

I don't get to see them as often as I would like...this past Christmas Eve (as usual) we went to my son's house where all three of the grandkids already were (son has two girls, daughter has one boy). It was SO neat to walk in the door, and there they are, lined up waiting to greet Poppa and Nanny.

I like to tell them they're the best grandchildren any Nanny ever had.

PS...when friends and others post photos of their little babies on Facebook, I'm like....meh.

If it's photos of their pets, that's when I take notice.

I feel guilty, but what can you do...

I don't respond well to loud and unexpected noises (a neighbor used to have one of those loud-for-the-sake-of-loud motorcycles, and would always gun it if he knew I was home, just to make me jump and yell at him.) Kids screaming and yelling bother me similarly.

And yet, I often smile at them when they're doing something funny, or whatever. If they were just like that 100% of the time, well, I might have been a parent. But, they're not, and I'm often cringing when they start running around busy restaurants and such, not wanting to see an accident between them and a server. I'm afraid that if I was a parent, then my kids would be on leashes when out to dinner with them...

10. A little story for you...

Like a lot of caring pet "parents", we refer to our dogs as our "kids".

Years ago, on some discussion group or another for pet owners, a lady relayed a story about what happened when she was at work and someone who didn't know her well overheard her saying she had to get home to her "kids" because she had left them alone too long the past week and was feeling guilty.

Well, this person notified CPS and within a few days a social worker showed up at the other person's door looking into alleged child neglect.

It was quite a feat to convince the social worker that she didn't have human kids...that she was referring to her fur-kids

A mixed blessing, I guess. Someone cared enough to get involved, but probably should have asked some other coworkers questions first...

Anyway, Mr Pipi and I refer to our dogs as our "kids", and I'm waiting for the day when CPS shows up here to investigate us...a guy with a vasectomy and me past childbearing age.

First off, any records of their birth would have your personal information, including addresses, and maybe SS# (not sure about the SS# part, but it would make sense to have it on them.) Then there would be school records, neighbors' and landlords to interview, not to mention IRS returns. If you've got kids, why would you not claim them?

It's too bad I can't claim my cat on my IRS return. His medical bills rival those of a human child, and pet insurance is a joke!

That's both a funny and cringe-worthy story. I wouldn't want to go through that kind of headache with CPS, and I'd be less than civil with the person that turned me in.

I'm of a similar age and my GF is a resident and citizen of NZ. It would make it difficult for us to raise a family being separated by an ocean

One of my younger sisters really can't stand kids, and would have made a totally shitty parent because she has...issues.

Luckily for any kids whose lives she might have ruined, she caught a disease during her teen years that scarred her fallopian tubes, and she ended up sterile.

What sucks about that is she has inflicted her crazy on defenseless little dogs. She and her worthless husband never house trained their dogs (Chihuahuas) so they shit and piss all over the house, chew things up, and wear stupid dog clothing.
